A young man in Ho Chi Minh City discovered a rare bird, weighing about 0.5 kg, flying into his house at midnight.
Today (February 18), the Ho Chi Minh City Forestry Department has just received and rescued a rare white-bellied sandpiper.
Mr. Nguyen Khac Minh, residing in Ward 4, Tan Binh District, discovered this rare bird flying into his house and voluntarily handed it over.
According to Mr. Minh, late last night (February 17), when he came home from playing, he discovered a strange bird perched on the stairs in his house.
After looking up information, Mr. Minh determined that this was a rare bird species, so he got food and water for the bird.
This morning, the bird was still in the house, so he contacted the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens. He was then instructed to hand the bird over to the forest rangers.
Mr. Minh said that when he approached the precious bird, it was not in good health. He determined that the bird was probably raised by someone but escaped from its cage and flew into his house through the window.
According to a ranger from the Ho Chi Minh City Forest Protection Department, this rare bird is a white-bellied sandpiper, with the scientific name Anthracoceros albirostris. The bird is female, weighs about 0.5 kg, and belongs to group IIB in the list of rare and endangered forest animals.
