A turning point may happen in Avdiivka in the next few hours
Suriyakmaps channel reports that north of Avdivka: Over the past few hours, Russian troops have made further advances in the city center. They advanced along Stepova and Pershotravneva streets, forcing Ukrainian troops to withdraw from the "Donetsk beach" area south of the Avdiivka quarry.
From the south, a new Russian offensive is also developing through Chystikova and Heroiv streets and only a few dozen meters away Russian troops will reach the railway station.
On the other hand, Russian forces have moved beyond the railway line, taken control of part of the "car market", several warehouses remain in the gray zone, as well as Tymiriazieva Street and are advancing towards the gas station on Industrialnyi Avenue, which the Ukrainian military has barricaded.
At the same time, Russia has taken full control of the houses south of the railway bridge and is attacking the "Alter Group Limited" complex.
Only 300m left and the Russians could officially cut off the main artery of Avdivka, which had previously been under their fire control.
The next few hours could decide the outcome of the battle, as Kiev troops under artillery fire in the Khimik settlement are trying to withdraw from Avdiivka across the field to the west. It is expected that the retreat will accelerate from now on.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian reinforcements appear to be moving towards this front, possibly on the northern and southwestern flanks, in order to launch a counterattack to relieve pressure on the troops in the city.
Michael Kofman, senior fellow in the Russia and Eurasia Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace , also said that "it is likely that Avdiivka will eventually fall."

Russian troops advance rapidly towards Chasov Yar
The Russian armed forces' advance is growing exponentially, according to the Military Summary channel. In the coming days, Kiev may lose several cities and strategically important positions at once.
At the Bakhmut front, on the way to Chasov Yar, the Russian army formed a pincer attack, attacking the town from two sides to break through the Ukrainian Ivanovsky defense line to remove this important checkpoint.

Italy approves one-year extension of military aid to Kiev
The Italian Chamber of Deputies gave final approval to extend military aid to Ukraine for another year on February 8, Kyiv Independent reported. The extension was approved by the Italian Senate.
The Italian government proposed extending aid until 2024 last December. Support from European countries is now more important than ever as additional funding from the United States, the top military donor, remains stalled due to internal political infighting.
"Italy has once again chosen to stand on the side of the freedom of nations and respect for international law, with the aim of achieving, in line with the views of NATO and EU allies, a just and lasting peace," Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said after the cabinet approved the measure in December 2023.
The Italian news agency ANSA reported that 218 out of 400 members of the House of Representatives approved the extension, which stipulates that military aid will continue until the end of 2024.
According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, which tracks international aid to Ukraine, Italy has pledged a total of 1.3 billion euros ($1.4 billion) in financial assistance to Ukraine by October 2023, including nearly 700 million euros ($754 million) in military aid.
F-16 'exceeded expectations' of Ukrainian pilots
Voice of America (VOA) reported that Ukrainian pilots were "very impressed" with the US-made F-16 fighter jets.
A pilot, referred to by the codename “Phantom”, mentioned in an interview with the news agency that Ukrainian pilots who are being trained on multirole fighters in the US and Europe praise the aircraft.

Several Western allies have pledged to deliver F-16s to Ukraine. The exact number of jets being delivered has not been announced, but the Telegraph estimated in January that the Netherlands, Denmark and Norway were supplying up to 60 F-16s to Ukraine. All of the jets are around 40 years old.
On February 5, the Netherlands announced that it was preparing to send six more US-made F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, bringing the total number of jets the Netherlands has committed to providing to Ukraine to 24.
“Our pilots were very impressed,” said the Ukrainian pilot interviewed by VOA. “This plane simply exceeded their expectations. Even with the amount of information they received during training, they saw great prospects for how this plane would enhance our Air Force’s combat capabilities.”
However, "Phantom" notes that the process of retraining pilots on complex aircraft poses certain challenges, since many of them are accustomed to operating old Soviet-made Su-27s and MiG-29s.
Pentagon press secretary Air Force Brigadier General Pat Ryder announced in August 2023 that the US would begin training Ukrainian pilots on F-16 jets "to support international efforts to develop and enhance Ukraine's long-term defense capabilities."
An 11-nation coalition was formed a month earlier to coordinate the delivery of fighter jets and provide training for Ukrainian pilots and their operations. It has since expanded to include 14 countries.
The US began training Ukrainian pilots in October 2023, while the Royal Air Force began its training program two months earlier. Pilots completed basic flying and English courses before the first group began specialized F-16 training in Denmark last December.
