The navy found a total of 45 sacks during a recent coastal patrol. Each sack contained 30 tightly wrapped packages of white powder resembling cocaine. Semar has sent the seized goods to the competent authorities for analysis, investigation of the origin and handling.
Last week, the Mexican Navy dismantled a clandestine synthetic drug production facility in the northwestern state of Sinaloa as part of a drug-fighting cooperation program with the country's Attorney General's Office.
This is considered the second largest anti-drug campaign during the term of outgoing President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (term 2018-2024). During this operation, Mexican police seized more than 3.9 tons of synthetic drugs, more than 28,600 liters and 2.25 tons of chemical precursors for the production of narcotics.
According to statistics from December 2018 to present, Semar has seized more than 8.22 tons of fentanyl, an increase of 455% compared to the figure recorded in 2019 with 491 kg.
