About 400 firefighters, 70 fire engines and two bulldozers were deployed to fight the Post Fire, but high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds hampered the effort. As of late June 16, firefighters had only contained 2% of the fire, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).

According to NPR, about 1,200 people have been evacuated from the Hungry Valley recreation area to ensure their safety. So far, two structures in the area have been destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. California's wildfire season is starting to heat up, with fires burning more than 16,900 hectares so far this year, higher than the average of 10,900 hectares burned during the same period in the past five years.
