A fierce wildfire in the northwest of Los Angeles (California, USA) has burned more than 4,800 hectares of land and forced more than 1,000 people to evacuate.
About 400 firefighters, 70 fire engines and two bulldozers were deployed to fight the Post Fire, but high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds hampered the effort. As of late June 16, firefighters had only contained 2% of the fire, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire).
According to NPR, about 1,200 people have been evacuated from the Hungry Valley recreation area to ensure their safety. So far, two structures in this area have been destroyed by the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. California's wildfire season is starting to get intense, with fires burning more than 16,900 hectares since the beginning of the year, higher than the average of 10,900 hectares burned during the same period in the past five years.
