The national fire service said 10 firefighting teams had brought the fire under control. However, fire chief Adriano De Acutis said “there is still a lot of work to do” to extinguish the blaze.
RAI was forced to cancel a live broadcast at noon. "We are evacuating the studio. The fire in Monte Mario is serious, we will see you tomorrow," RAI presenter Nunzia De Girolamo said in an Instagram video.
Earlier, on the morning of July 31, authorities in Rome warned of a high risk of fire in the capital due to temperatures above 35 degrees Celsius at noon.
A report by the European Commission (EC) in April said climate change is making forest fires more frequent.
The 2023 wildfire season is one of the worst in Europe this century.
