(Dan Tri) - The United States Pickleball Association (UPA) has just announced the results of a survey of pickleball rackets produced in this country, with 99.4% passing the test.
In pickleball, the racket is the most important tool because it directly affects the performance of the game. Currently, there are countless types of rackets from different brands, each with its own characteristics to suit each playing style.
In an experiment conducted at the 2025 Carvana PPA Mesa Cup, players used 701 different rackets from 25 U.S. brands during the tournament. According to UPA, four rackets split during the experiment. However, UPA did not disclose the racket type or manufacturer.

The UPA standards are based on the size of the racket's face, thickness, durability, roughness, weight and sound produced by the racket. "Sixty-five percent of the American-brand rackets used at the 2025 Carvana PPA Mesa Cup failed to meet roughness standards. The split rackets were due to design flaws that could not withstand high intensity," said UPA Commissioner Brooks Wiley.
According to UPA, the standard size of a racket is no more than 24 inches (about 61cm) in total length and width with a length of no more than 17 inches (43cm), with a maximum thickness of 24mm.
A UPA-approved racket weighs 283 grams, has a flat face with no dimples or added textures to increase spin, and should produce a moderate sound, with rackets that sound as soft as the Owl Paddle being substandard and could be banned from future professional tournaments.
Using a UPA approved racket offers many benefits to players, from beginners to professionals. UPA approved products undergo rigorous testing, which not only provides a better player experience but also maintains fairness in competition.
