On the eve of Lunar New Year 2024, Mr. NTL (33 years old, living in Ba Ria - Vung Tau) went to the Burn - Plastic Surgery Department of Trung Vuong Hospital (HCMC) for a final nose check-up before returning home for Tet. The young man's face was radiant and he told the doctor: "It's good and beautiful now. I'll let my girlfriend meet me after Tet."
Patient re-examined before returning home for Tet
Mr. L. said that he used to get drunk and fall off his motorbike many times, tearing his chin. The most serious fall was 7 years ago. That was when he was drunk and driving a motorbike, but because he could not control himself and the speed, the motorbike climbed onto the sidewalk and fell, his face hit the motorbike's clock, and his nose was broken and flattened. He was taken to a local hospital to have his nose stitched up.
With the incident that followed, L.'s life became closed. He went to work far away with his face no longer normal, but with the determination to earn money to support himself and get his nose done. He only returned home occasionally.
Being encouraged by his girlfriend to get a nose job and then get married, this seemed to give L a huge boost of motivation.
Introduced by an acquaintance, more than a month ago, Mr. L. came to the Burn - Plastic Surgery Department, Trung Vuong Hospital with the wish to have his nose reconstructed.
"The patient came to us with a broken nasal bone, a deformed nose, and a flat nose . Another important thing is that the patient had a narrowed nasal passage, making it difficult to breathe and had a hoarse voice," said Dr. Dinh Phuong Dong, Deputy Head of Department. Burns - cosmetic surgery, Trung Vuong Hospital shares.
According to Dr. Dinh Phuong Dong, the nose is the center of the face. When an accident occurs, the patient's nose becomes flattened, the face changes, the voice changes, this makes the patient lack confidence.
"We receive many cases of nasal trauma, but most of them are broken nasal bones. Mr. L. suffered a very severe fracture, even the wings of his nose were blown off. The patient had to have a CT scan to check his entire face from the bone structure to the sinuses," said Dr. Dinh Phuong Dong.
Therefore, the patient used 100% rib cartilage to reconstruct the bridge of the nose, septum, nasal column, and tip of the nose. In addition, the mucosa inside the nose was also lost, so it was necessary to take the skin mucosa with vascular turbinates inside the upper lip to cover the nasal mucosa.
"The patient wanted to have a normal nose like everyone else, not as beautiful as an actress. But over the past 7 years, the patient has encountered many events and financial difficulties. Now that he has the conditions and "enough fate", the patient has decided to have his nose redone. Hopefully in the new year, the patient will not only be more confident in life but also achieve the beautiful wishes he has cherished for the past 7 years but has not been able to fulfill," Dr. Dinh Phuong Dong shared.
