
The award is organized to select and award authors or groups of authors with outstanding journalistic works on the topics of culture, family, sports and tourism; creating conditions for journalists to exchange professional and technical experiences, contributing to improving the quality and effectiveness of information and journalism activities in the fields of culture, family, sports and tourism.
Through the Award, the Organizing Committee wishes to introduce to society the results and achievements of cultural, family, sports and tourism work; at the same time, discover typical advanced examples in the culture, sports and tourism sector, encourage and motivate cadres, civil servants and public employees in the whole sector to continue to contribute more to the cause of developing culture, sports and tourism.

Regarding the reception of entries and the preliminary round of the second National Press Award "For the cause of developing Culture, Sports and Tourism", Mr. Phan Thanh Nam, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Culture Newspaper, Vice Chairman of the Preliminary Council said: On May 22, 2024, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Award signed Decision No. 1375/QD-BTCGBC promulgating the Award Rules.
Since its launch, the Award has received positive responses from journalists and members of the Vietnam Journalists Association nationwide, with entries published in various types of press (print, electronic, radio, television, press photos), from July 1, 2023 to June 15, 2024.
“By the end of the submission deadline (June 20, 2024), the Organizing Committee had received a total of 920 entries. This is a very large number of entries for an industry-level journalism award launched in a relatively short time. This demonstrates the special interest of the press in the fields of culture, sports, and tourism,” Mr. Phan Thanh Nam emphasized.
The Secretariat of the Award conducted screening and preliminary selection according to the Award Rules. As a result, there were 894 valid works, of which, 258 were printed newspapers; 235 were electronic newspapers; 92 were radio; 222 were television; and 87 were photojournalism.

The preliminary judging panel of the Award is composed of 5 sub-committees: Print, Electronic, Radio, Television and Press Photo. The preliminary judging is expected to be completed before July 24.
Speaking at the award judging, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Trinh Thi Thuy, Head of the Award Organizing Committee, affirmed: The number of entries to the Award shows that the fields of culture, sports and tourism always receive attention from the press. In general, the entries clearly reflect the resolutions, policies and drastic directions of the Party and State, as well as the determination of the entire industry in developing the fields of culture, sports and tourism.

According to Deputy Minister Trinh Thi Thuy, with this year's regulations, the Organizing Committee has conducted research and amendments to ensure scientific and professional standards; creating uniformity among types of journalism as well as entries in the 5 fields. The Deputy Minister hopes that the award judging process will be carried out on the basis of impartiality, objectivity, strictness, and compliance with regulations and rules to select worthy works and award prizes.
The structure of the number of works selected for the Final Round of the Award by type is expected to include: 25 printed newspaper works; 25 electronic newspaper works; 22 radio works; 25 television works; 20 press photos.
At the opening session of the Preliminary Round, members of the Preliminary Council discussed and gave opinions on the judging process.

Photographer Vu Huyen said that, in addition to ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations of the Award, the Preliminary Jury will have a specific report to the Final Jury after finishing the judging, helping the judging process to take place smoothly and professionally. Photographer Vu Huyen also suggested introducing the winning, quality works to students at journalism training institutions, helping them learn more practical professional experience, creating more influence for quality journalistic works written about culture, sports, tourism and family.
Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Head of the People's Electronic Department (Nhan Dan Newspaper) affirmed that the second National Press Award "For the cause of developing Culture, Sports and Tourism" contributes to continuing to affirm the role of culture in the cause of sustainable development of the country. With the aim of improving the quality of the Award, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Thanh noted that the judging and awarding work needs to focus on the balance between types, topics and fields.

Journalist Nguyen Ha Nam, former Head of the Editorial Secretariat (Vietnam Television) expressed his hope that the Organizing Committee will create more conditions for foreign authors and foreign language works about Vietnamese culture to participate in the Award.
The second National Press Award "For the Development of Culture, Sports and Tourism" will be awarded to outstanding works, including: 1 First Prize, 3 Second Prizes, 5 Third Prizes and 10 Encouragement Prizes for each type of press. In addition, there will be 3 equal prizes for 3 press agencies with many works participating in the award with high results.
