Associate Professor, Dr. Dao Xuan Co - Director of Bach Mai Hospital said that on the afternoon of May 24, three victims of the Trung Kinh motel fire were transferred to Bach Mai Hospital for treatment. Of these, one seriously ill patient is being treated at the Intensive Care Unit, the remaining two patients are being treated at the Poison Control Center.
After being rescued from the fire in the early morning of May 24, patient NTK (85 years old, owner of the motel) was taken to the Transport Hospital in a state of agitation, impaired consciousness, skin and respiratory burns, pneumonia, and respiratory failure. The patient had difficulty breathing through the glottis, inhaled a lot of coal dust, metabolic acidosis, and myocardial damage.

"The patient was elderly, in serious condition with complicated developments, so that afternoon the patient was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Bach Mai Hospital in a state of severe respiratory failure, intubated, and on a ventilator. The patient is being closely monitored by doctors.
This afternoon, the patient will continue to be consulted by the entire hospital," said Mr. Co.
Because patient K. inhaled coal dust and black smoke, doctors performed a bronchoscopy and aspirated a lot of black coal dust and phlegm in the bronchi and lungs. The patient was prescribed dialysis, mechanical ventilation, and feeding through a tube.
The two patients being treated at the Poison Control Center are a married couple, the wife is a 30-year-old teacher (from Hoa Binh), the husband is a 35-year-old office worker (from Phu Tho).
The couple had been married for only a year and had been renting a room in Trung Kinh for 2-3 months. During the fire, the couple barricaded themselves in the bathroom for about an hour until they were rescued.
Currently, both patients are on oxygen, conscious, and able to communicate with medical staff. Immediately after being admitted to the hospital, the patients were ordered to undergo an ENT endoscopy, X-ray, testing, IV fluids, and antibiotics.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nguyen - Director of the Poison Control Center, Bach Mai Hospital said that the patient inhaled a lot of coal dust and smoke, showing symptoms of poisoning such as vomiting, nausea, metabolic acidosis, coughing up activated charcoal, pneumonia... After a day of active treatment, the pneumonia improved, the metabolic acidosis was gone, but continued monitoring was required.

“In addition to antidotes, this afternoon the patient will be prescribed hyperbaric oxygen therapy to prevent late neurological and psychiatric complications, ” said Dr. Nguyen.
With experience in treating serious cases in the mini apartment fire in Thanh Xuan district in September 2023, doctors and nurses at Bach Mai Hospital are focusing all their highest resources to treat the victims, minimizing casualties for the people.
Previously, at around 0:30 on May 24, a house in alley 43/98/31 Trung Kinh caught fire fiercely. Because the house is in a narrow alley, the fire department had difficulty accessing the scene.
The tragic fire killed 14 people and injured 6 people who were taken to the emergency room. Currently, 3 patients are being treated at Bach Mai Hospital, and 3 others were treated at the Transport Hospital and were discharged this afternoon.
