Located in the central area of District 5 with a total area of up to 4,000 m2 , Dai The Gioi Water Park opened to welcome visitors in 1999. For more than a decade, this place has become an ideal entertainment spot during the hot summer days for Ho Chi Minh City residents. In early 2020, this park announced its closure and has been abandoned since then.

Because it has been abandoned for a long time and there is no one to look after it, the main entrance area of the park has been used by nearby households as a free parking area.

In front of the main gate of the park on Vo Van Kiet Street, this place used to be a garbage dump but now it has been treated and a warning sign has been posted. However, this place is still very dirty because many people with no awareness still come in to defecate indiscriminately because there are no people.

People living around Dai The Gioi Park said that since the park closed, there has been almost no one to look after it. "In the past, thanks to this park, this whole stretch of road was very happy, bustling with people on weekends. Thanks to that, the surrounding households also benefited because they could sell water or park their vehicles... But since the pandemic closed, this stretch of road has become deserted, with only passersby passing by," said Nguyen Thi Lanh, a sidewalk water seller near the park.

Dai The Gioi Water Park has been considered a "legendary" water park and the childhood of many generations of Ho Chi Minh City residents. Therefore, the fact that this place has gradually become deserted and shows no signs of being active again makes many people regretful.
