Warning about strangers offering money and approaching students at school gates

Ho Chi Minh City: A 5th grade student at Ha Huy Giap Primary School was given 20,000 VND by a stranger and gave it to his teacher. After that, the female teacher showed signs of dizziness and sleepiness.

Ms. Nguyen Hoang Yen, Principal of Ha Huy Giap Primary School, District 12, said the incident happened a week ago.

According to a 5th grader, at around 6am on November 15th, at the back gate of To Ngoc Van Secondary School, District 12 (5th grader is temporarily studying here), a masked woman approached and gave her 20,000 VND, saying "I'll give you money for breakfast". The student said he had already had breakfast so he didn't accept the money, but the woman still pushed the money into his hand.

At that time, a parent driving a child to school saw something suspicious and approached the woman, but she ran away. The student gave the 20,000 VND to the homeroom teacher. The teacher used alcohol to disinfect the money and threw it in the trash. A while later, the teacher showed signs of dizziness, headache, and drowsiness.

"The school has worked with the ward police to coordinate measures to ensure security and safety for students before and after school every day in the surrounding area," said Ms. Yen.

According to Ms. Yen, after working with the police, realizing that this could be a trick for criminals to approach and kidnap students, the school immediately sent a warning to parents.

Homeroom teachers are required to take attendance at the beginning of the school day and contact parents directly if a student is absent without prior notice. The school also instructs students to wait for their parents in the schoolyard and not to follow or accept toys or candy from strangers. Parents should notify the homeroom teacher in advance if they ask someone else to pick up their child.

In March this year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training also issued a similar warning after a student reported being approached by a stranger at the school gate, lured into a car with the excuse that "father and son had an accident". Previously, with the scenario "child is in emergency, need to transfer money urgently", many parents in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang were tricked into transferring billions of dong.
