Long An International Port signs letter of intent with OPASCOR to expand cooperation

At the 2024 Philippine Ports & Logistics Conference and Exhibition, Long An International Port, Vietnam and Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR), Philippines identified cooperation opportunities and signed a protocol.

On the afternoon of March 21, 2024, on the occasion of the 2024 Philippine Port & Logistics Conference and Exhibition, Long An International Port, Vietnam and Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR), Philippines identified opportunities for cooperation and development and signed a Letter of Intent, formalizing the cooperative relationship.

Participating as a speaker at the 2024 Philippine Port & Logistics Conference and Exhibition, Long An International Port is recognized and highly appreciated by the international community for its investment scale, vision, development strategy and potential to connect with the logistics chain and seaports in the Southern region, promoting economic and social development in the Mekong Delta.

Dongtam Group leaders and OPASCOR leaders witnessed the signing ceremony of the letter of intent between Long An International Port , Vietnam and Oriental Port and Allied Services Corporation (OPASCOR) , Philippines.  

The largest biennial event in the ASEAN East Growth Area (BIMP EAGA), taking place for 3 days from March 19-21, 2024 in Manila, Philippines with over 350 delegates including senior government officials, industry leaders, businesses, shipping lines, experts, suppliers from ASEAN and neighboring regions attending.

The highlight of the event series is the presentation of 35 prestigious speakers from many countries and leading businesses in the industry, focusing on outstanding topics on: Cooperation to reduce costs, digitize and reduce carbon emissions in the end-to-end supply chain, solving current issues and challenges facing the regional transportation and logistics industry.

Along with that is the appearance of exhibition space displaying many international shipping lines, logistics service providers, ports, road transport, railways, information technology and comprehensive solutions for supply chain networks.

Within the framework of the Conference, the Long An International Port booth attracted a large number of delegates to visit, learn, exchange and express their desire to connect. In particular, the Deputy Minister of Transportation of the Philippines, Mr. Elmer Francisco U. Sarmiento, recognized and highly appreciated the potential for logistics development in Long An province in general and Long An International Port in particular.

Deputy Minister Elmer Francisco U. Sarmiento said that Long An International Port can connect well with the regional transportation system, and with its large investment scale, full equipment and diverse cargo handling capacity, it will provide optimal services for import and export goods in the region.

The conference brought attractive topics for the international port and logistics business community. On March 20, there was the DOIr Forum - Exclusive insights into current challenges, opportunities and future strategies in transforming the Philippine shipping industry to global standards. Topic 2 - Seaport development, expansion, investment opportunities and smart port initiatives in BIMP EAGA and ASEAN.

In particular, Long An International Port appeared prominently and impressively with the presentation of the topic "Long An International Port's initiative on economic and logistics development in the key economic region of Southern Vietnam". On March 21, the topic was about Building a sustainable green port in the future while reducing carbon emissions; and Optimizing port operations with discussions on increasing efficiency and reducing operating costs for container, bulk and breakbulk terminals.

As a new port in the seaport community, however, Long An International Port always strives to connect with seaports in the region and the world, thereby creating and promoting the image of Vietnam to international friends. Participating in important topics and sharing initiatives of Long An International Port at this Conference has affirmed the position of an internationally known and recognized seaport in Asia. Also within the framework of the conference, a letter of intent was signed between Long An International Port - OPASCOR, opening up opportunities for cooperation and connection to promote trade and import and export between the two localities, towards green and sustainable development.

The signing ceremony of the letter of intent was witnessed by Mr. Vo Quoc Thang, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dongtam Group, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Quynh Huong, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, General Director of Long An International Port Management and Operation Joint Stock Company and leaders of OPASCOR Port, along with senior leaders of the two ports.

The signing ceremony marks an important turning point, formalizing the sister relationship of two key ports in the ASEAN region, opening up opportunities for cooperation, sharing experiences in port management and operation, and connecting markets to increase import and export output; aiming for green, sustainable development and promoting global trade.

Mr. Vo Quoc Huy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Long An Port Joint Stock Company, shared about the strategic vision and desire for long-term cooperation between Long An International Port and Opascor: “We wish to establish and foster a strong cooperative relationship with the leaders of Opascor. As a neighboring country in the ASEAN region, Long An International Port always wishes to connect cooperation opportunities between the two ports in particular and the business communities of the two localities, thereby building good relationships in the future, developing together, and sharing and learning in port operations and exploitation."

Mr. Tomas Riveral shared: "We are very excited about the emergence of Long An International Port - a new phenomenon in the regional seaport and logistics industry. OPASCOR is a port formed and operated by Filipino workers, under the management of the local seaport authority. We always want to continue to develop further and are especially happy to connect and cooperate with partners such as Long An International Port; we will arrange to come to Vietnam as soon as possible to have more specific exchanges and hope that the bilateral cooperation relationship will develop further."

Previously, Long An International Port signed a cooperation agreement with Long Beach Port and Oakland Port (USA), which are prestigious and famous seaports in the world. The signing with Opascor will bring mutual benefits and cooperation activities in areas of mutual interest, including the commitment to develop smart ports, green ports and sustainable development.

This will be an opportunity for Long An International Port on its journey to become an internationally recognized and selected seaport in Asia. Visiting large-scale seaports in Manila, Philippines. Within the framework of the program, delegates visited large-scale seaports in Manila on March 19, 2024, organized by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA).

It is considered the largest domestic and international maritime gateway in the Philippines, with cargo volumes to and from many countries around the world. According to the PPA report, in 2022, the Port of Manila will reach a throughput of 7.9 million TEUs and 260 million tons of cargo handled at all terminals.
