California in flames: Super-rich homes, Hollywood star mansions turned to ashes

In just one night, wildfires burned the coastal city of Pacific Palisades, with its million-dollar mansions, to ashes. A number of super-rich people and Hollywood stars such as Paris Hilton and Anthony Hopkins lost their homes in the fire.

According to the Guardian , the most catastrophic wildfire in decades in Los Angeles (California, USA) burned down a large area in the Palisades, destroying a series of houses, including luxurious villas of the super-rich and Hollywood stars.

The fire spread to Hollywood Hills, and thick smoke stretched to Beverly Hills.

According to Yahoo News , about 1,000 structures were destroyed in the coastal city of Palisades, home to the lavish mansions of movie stars. This is considered the richest area in California.

Pacific Palisades is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the US with an average home price of around $3.7 million. Film producer Anita Verma-Lallian's $8.5 million Pacific Palisades home is also believed to have been destroyed in the fire. Real estate investor Kurt Rappaport also had a $22.5 million Malibu mansion that may not have survived.

Pacific Palisades is known for its beautiful scenery and ocean views but faces a high risk of wildfires due to its location among large natural parks, with lots of flammable vegetation during the dry season.

Many of the lavish villas now have only blackened windows, ash-covered swimming pools and burnt-out sports cars on the streets.

The causes of the wildfires in Los Angeles are hurricane-force winds and prolonged drought.

According to The Guardian , initial estimates suggest these fires could cause tens of billions of dollars in damage.
