On September 22, Dan Phuong District Police (Hanoi) said they were investigating a case of property appropriation by impersonating police officers and calling people, asking them to install fake VNeID software.
Accordingly, on September 13, Dan Phuong District Police received a report from Ms. V. (born in 1982, in Tan Lap, Dan Phuong) about receiving a phone call from a subject claiming to be a Dan Phuong District police officer requesting her to install VNeID software.
The subject then sent her a link to install fake VNeID software and asked her to transfer money to the bank to pay the application fee. The subject continued to ask her to scan the QR code to authenticate her face and transfer the OTP to her bank account. After completing the process, Ms. V. discovered that nearly 1 billion VND had been lost from her bank account, so she went to the police to report it.
Hanoi City Police recommends that people be vigilant against the above tricks. Absolutely do not provide personal data, bank account OTP codes, install software, applications as requested by strangers calling.
If you install fake software, there is a risk of taking control of the entire phone. Messages and calls to the victim's phone will be controlled by the application and secretly transferred to a server managed by the subject. More dangerously, the subjects will remotely take control of the mobile phone, then access the account and transfer money of the victim.
When encountering cases showing signs of fraud, people need to promptly report to the police to prevent and handle them according to the provisions of the law.
