After the historic gold medal at a SEA Games golf event by young athlete Le Khanh Hung, Vietnamese golf continued to show remarkable progress and brought home another silver medal in the men's team event.
On March 15, the Vietnamese golf team entered the final match against the "giant" of regional golf, the Thai team. Joining Khanh Hung in this event are Nguyen Anh Minh and Doan Uy.

Khanh Hung was the one in charge of the first match and the 15-year-old talent had many excellent shots, thereby defeating Ratchnon Chantananuwat of Thailand, creating a psychological advantage for his two teammates. However, in the next 2 rounds, Doan Uy and Nguyen Anh Minh could not create a surprise against Arsit Areephun and Jiradech Chaowarat. In the end, the Vietnamese golf team accepted defeat 1-2 and won the silver medal.

However, this is still a very proud achievement because before the 32nd SEA Games, Vietnamese golf had never won any medals at the largest sports event in the region . In Cambodia, young talents brought home both a gold medal (individual event Le Khanh Hung a few days ago) and on May 13, a silver medal for the team.

Sharing about his game, the 2008-born talent Le Khanh Hung said he played like every other day and there was nothing outstanding.

Although only winning silver medal, this is a commendable achievement for young Vietnamese golfers.

"I played very normally today. Everyone thought I played like I was possessed, but in fact I only took advantage of the first 5 holes because Ratchon did not play well, so I just did my job of keeping the game and winning the hole. The remaining holes I did not do as well as I did in the 3 individual rounds. Actually, it was because I got into the rhythm that I won early, not because I was possessed," Khanh Hung said.

Talking about the tactics of the Vietnamese golf team in this match, Khanh Hung said that both teams did not know each other's starting lineup. If Khanh Hung played the second round in the semi-final against Indonesia, in the final, the coaching staff arranged for Hung to play the first match. And only after the registration was completed did they know the order of competition on the Thai side. In addition, the player who started in the semi-final, Nguyen Dang Minh, did not compete in the final, but Doan Uy instead.

In the men's team final, only Hung won while Anh Minh and Uy both lost.

"Meeting Thailand is much more difficult than the teams we met in the previous 2 rounds. From the beginning, I knew that the Thai team's ability and strength were higher than mine, they had a gap compared to me, so I tried to relax mentally, play early and win early to cheer on my teammates. I think it's very difficult to beat Thailand. Although everyone did very well, we have to accept this result and hope everyone won't get too emotional so that we can focus on the SEA Games 2 years later.

For me , every opponent is the same. I don't know if people were wary or afraid of Thailand before, but I 'm not afraid of anyone, I respect them. 2 weeks before the SEA Games, I went to the training ground according to my father's plan and I tried to push the drop point to the right time for the tournament and I found it quite successful. I played 6 days in a row without feeling tired. As for my mentality, I tried to keep it normal," the SEA Games champion shared.
