From 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on May 15, the UV index in cities at a very high risk level included: Ha Long (Quang Ninh province) 9.4, Hai Phong 9.6, Hanoi 9.0, Hue (Thua Thien - Hue province) 9.3, Da Nang 8.6, Hoi An (Quang Nam province) 9.6, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa province) 10.0, Ho Chi Minh City 9.7, Can Tho 9.7, Ca Mau (Ca Mau province) 8.8.
It is forecasted that from May 16 to 18, the maximum UV index in areas across the country will have little change and will remain at a very high risk level (from 8 to 10).
The UV index scale states that 2.5 - 5.4 is average, 5.5 - 7.4 is high, and 7.5 - 10.4 is very high. At very high levels, UV rays can cause skin burns if exposed directly for 25 minutes. An index of 10.5 or higher is extremely high, very dangerous, causing the risk of skin damage and eye burns if exposed to sunlight for about 15 minutes without protection.
Due to the effects of heat and intense heat combined with low humidity, there is a risk of explosions and fires in residential areas due to increased demand for electricity and the risk of forest fires. Heat can also cause dehydration, exhaustion, and heat stroke in the human body when exposed to high temperatures for a long time.
To prevent the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays and heat shock, people working outdoors need to wear sun protection equipment such as protective clothing, hats, glasses, etc. and always ensure enough water for the body.
