According to Decision 1431/QD-CTN signed by President Vo Van Thuong on November 28, Meritorious Artist Thanh Lam is one of 42 individuals awarded the title of People's Artist.

In 2018, Thanh Lam's mother, artist Thanh Huong, applied for the title of People's Artist. However, her application was not qualified because it did not receive enough votes from the Ministerial Council and lacked medals. Thanh Lam was born in 1969, the daughter of musician Thuan Yen and pipa artist Thanh Huong. She possesses a powerful mezzo-soprano voice with a unique timbre. She is known as one of the four divas of pop music along with Hong Nhung, My Linh, and Tran Thu Ha.

The female singer has won many awards: Most Favorite Singer at Festival La Habana, Golden Voice at ASEAN Voice Festival, Dedication Award.

In 2007, Thanh Lam was the first independent singer to be awarded the title of Meritorious Artist.

Trinh Kim Chi was born in 1971 and graduated from the Faculty of Acting at the University of Theatre and Cinema in Ho Chi Minh City. A person awarded the title of People's Artist must have a continuous or cumulative professional artistic activity period of 20 years or more, and for the art forms of Circus and Dance, a continuous or cumulative professional artistic activity period of 15 years or more.
This person must also be awarded at least two gold prizes or one gold prize and two silver prizes at national, regional or international art festivals and performances and at Central literary and artistic associations since being awarded the title of Meritorious Artist.
