Yen Bai from revolutionary tradition to aspiration for prosperity

On February 3, 1930, in Kowloon (Hong Kong, China), under the chairmanship of comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc, the Conference merged three communist organizations in Vietnam into a single Party, the Communist Party of Vietnam . The birth of the Party was a major event, marking a major turning point in the history of our country's revolution, opening the way for national liberation, for independence, freedom, and for the happiness of the people.

Immediately after the Party was founded, the light of revolution spread strongly to all regions of the country, including Yen Bai. Right in this land rich in patriotic traditions, the spirit of revolutionary struggle was soon ignited by the uprising of the Vietnam Nationalist Party initiated by leader Nguyen Thai Hoc on the night of February 9 and early morning of February 10, 1930. Although it failed, the uprising left a great echo, further fostering the patriotism and indomitable spirit of the people of all ethnic groups in Yen Bai, igniting the will to fight for independence and freedom throughout the country.

From the initial revolutionary "seeds", the movement to fight for independence in Yen Bai spread more and more widely. Revolutionary bases were formed, many national salvation organizations were born. Notably, on May 7, 1945, the first Communist Party cell of Yen Bai town was established, opening a new period of struggle, laying the foundation for the birth of the Provincial Party Committee. On June 30, 1945, in the Van - Hien Luong War Zone, the Yen Bai - Phu Tho Inter-Provincial Party Committee was established with comrade Ngo Minh Loan as Secretary.

Under the leadership of the Party, the people of Yen Bai ethnic groups carried out uprisings to seize power in Van Chan, Luc Yen, Tran Yen, Yen Binh and Yen Bai town, contributing significantly to the victory of the August Revolution in 1945. During the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, the Party Committee and people of Yen Bai highly promoted the revolutionary spirit, steadfastly stuck to the land and people, built up forces, coordinated with the main force to achieve great victories in campaigns such as Song Thao, Le Hong Phong, Ly Thuong Kiet, especially the Northwest Campaign that completely liberated Yen Bai province.

Yen Bai, together with the whole country, made the historic Dien Bien Phu Victory, contributing to ending the domination of French colonialism in our country. During the resistance war against the US, Yen Bai continued to become a great rear base, mobilizing human and material resources for the front line. The movements "One hand plowing, one hand gunning", "Each person working as two for the beloved South" spread throughout the province. Nearly 25,000 young men joined the army, including 4 Battalions named Yen Ninh participating in the fight on all battlefields. The whole Yen Bai province contributed 290,000 tons of food and 150,000 tons of food to the resistance war.

The economic structure continues to shift in the right direction, in 2024 the growth rate of gross regional domestic product (GRDP) will reach 7.91%, ranking 7th out of 14 provinces in the Northern midland and mountainous region, and 25th out of 63 provinces and cities. Agricultural production affirms its role as a "pillar" of the economy, continuing to maintain a fairly good growth momentum in the context of many agricultural areas being severely affected by natural disasters and floods, reaching 3.56%, ranking 2nd out of 14 provinces in the Northern midland and mountainous region.

The province currently has 113/146 communes meeting new rural standards, accounting for over 77.4% of the total number of communes, 1.5 times higher than the regional average; 5/9 districts, towns and cities meeting new rural standards are Tran Yen district, Yen Bai city, Nghia Lo town, Yen Binh district, Van Yen district. Transforming strongly into a diverse and dynamic market economy, Yen Bai has specialized agricultural areas according to the value chain.

Typical areas include cinnamon area of ​​over 80,000 hectares, fruit tree area of ​​nearly 10,000 hectares, wood material area of ​​over 220,000 hectares, Bat Do bamboo shoot area of ​​over 6,000 hectares, hawthorn area of ​​over 10,000 hectares, mulberry area of ​​over 1,000 hectares, specialty rice area of ​​over 3,000 hectares... Agricultural production has created the driving force for industrialization, modernization of agriculture, rural areas and sustainable socio-economic development.

Identified as a breakthrough in promoting socio-economic development, in recent years, the province's industry has developed quite well, with the industrial production value in 2024 reaching 18,400 billion VND, an increase of 8.7% compared to 2023, ranking 8th out of 14 provinces in the Northern midland and mountainous region. Yen Bai pays special attention to promoting administrative reform, creating an open and attractive investment environment, attracting domestic and foreign investors. Many large economic groups have been investing in Yen Bai such as: BB Group, Viglacera Corporation, Flamingo Holding Group, Erex Japan Group, Vigroup Group, Sun Group, Euro Window Group, APEC Group, Nippon Joki Pharmaceutical Group, Bao Lai Group, FDI enterprises, Korean garment enterprises, etc.

In particular, Yen Bai is one of the few provinces leading the country in rural transport construction. The whole province has 7 modern bridges crossing the Red River connecting the two banks. Along with the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway passing through the area, in recent years, many spacious and modern roads have been invested in and built, creating momentum to promote socio-economic development, creating a new look for Yen Bai homeland.

Tourism has become an important spearhead economic sector of the province with many unique, attractive products with their own identity such as: Muong Lo Cultural - Tourism Week and exploring the special national monument of Mu Cang Chai terraced fields, Dong Cuong Temple Festival, Thac Ba Lake tourism, Le Champ Tu Le Resort, Tram Tau hot spring, community tourism products... attracting a large number of domestic and international tourists.

In 2024, Yen Bai welcomed and served nearly 2.15 million visitors, of which international visitors reached over 270,000; revenue reached 1,790 billion VND, up 4% over the same period in 2023. The banking, transportation and trade sectors also had many positive changes. The province's key projects have been and are being implemented, along with many socio-economic infrastructure projects being invested in, continuing to create a new look from urban to rural areas.

Along with economic development, culture and society are cared for and have comprehensive development; the quality of education and health care is constantly improved. The cultural identity of ethnic groups is preserved and promoted in association with tourism development. Vocational training, job creation and job conversion for rural workers have achieved positive results, achieving the goal of rapid and sustainable poverty reduction. The material and spiritual life and happiness index of the people are constantly improved.

National defense and security have been consolidated and enhanced; political security and social order and safety have been ensured, creating a favorable environment to attract investment, develop the economy and society, and maintain a peaceful and happy life for the people. The leadership methods of the Party and the political system have been innovated and achieved positive results.

The government's activities are increasingly effective and efficient. The Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations at all levels gather and promote the strength of the great national unity bloc, arouse the will and aspiration to rise up among the people, join hands with the Party Committee and the government to well perform the political tasks of the province. Those results are an important foundation and an extremely favorable factor for Yen Bai province to continue to innovate and develop, together with the whole country entering a new era.

Looking back on the past, the Party Committee and people of all ethnic groups in Yen Bai province have the right to be proud of their great contributions to the cause of national liberation and national construction. Those achievements are the crystallization of the intelligence, bravery, will and sacrifice of many generations of cadres, party members and people through the periods.
