From the sad story of students cornering a female teacher in the classroom, insulting her and throwing sandals at her in Tuyen Quang, I see even more the importance of further promoting personality education for students.

School violence is not a new story, but public opinion was stirred up when a teacher was locked up, cursed at and had her slippers thrown at her by students. As a teacher and a former student, I looked at the issue that has stirred up public opinion in recent days, and I could not help but be shocked and question the decline of school culture.
I feel scared about the behavior that loses the dignity and prestige of a teacher and at the same time, I worry about a young generation that is easily agitated and has difficulty controlling their emotions and behavior. If they are like that at school, then what will they be like at home and in society?
The image and relationship between teachers and students are increasingly cracked, gradually losing sympathy and understanding, losing the ability to connect and control emotions at a low level.
From this story, I see more and more the importance of further promoting personality education for students. Society will decline and be in danger when education does not promote and focus on personality training for students.
In a study entitled “On the concept of personality in today’s psychology” by Associate Professor, Dr. Dinh Duc Hoi, personality is mentioned as stable psychological traits, formed in life, in activities, and communication, is the unique identity of each individual, and is a measure of human value in society.
At the age of adolescence, personality education is extremely important, because at this age children enter puberty, change in psychology and physiology, like to show off, and are easily agitated. Therefore, in this stage, it is necessary to orient and care for them more deeply.
Cultivating good character is one of the factors that affect learning ability. A study of nearly 300 third graders in the US conducted by the journal Scholar Psychology showed that emotional and social skills have a significant impact on their learning ability at school. Statistics also show that children who are well-cultivated in character also score 11-17% better on school tests.
Children will be loved more by others when they have a good personality, know how to love people and be forgiving, honesty and respect for others are also extremely necessary. This is not just a one-day or two-day practice, but adults need to set an example for children, accompany, guide and orient them continuously.
At the same time, it is necessary to consider the importance of educating children's personality through social networking sites, selecting and controlling content more carefully. Because for young children, if not carefully oriented, using phones to play games, surfing social networks will easily be influenced by negative, toxic and violent images.
Moreover, building a non-violent environment cannot be based solely on punishment, but must simultaneously change from each individual, especially from adults. To reduce school violence, to make teachers be teachers, students be students, we must not only rely on forms of discipline, but also need to go deeper into making children know how to love and feel the psychological trauma and physical pain that others have to endure after being abused.
Teachers need to control themselves better from words to behavior. In relation, teachers need to set an example for children, cultivate positive educational and disciplinary methods, and equip themselves with skills and psychology when working with each age group.
Schools and teachers need to establish rules for communication and behavior with students. In the classroom, teachers need to respect students, avoid excessive criticism, and avoid hurting children's psychology. Use love to conquer children.
Families also have a great responsibility in educating children. (Source: TT) |
Thus, family education in the "tripod" of family - school - society is becoming more important than ever. Educating children requires very close coordination from these "three tripods". In the family, parents need to be good examples for children in the formation and development of personality, educating children about love and respect for life, respecting others. Educating and helping children practice self-confidence, tolerance and forgiveness, solving problems in life through communication and dialogue, seeking support from others.
Schools need to have principles of communication and behavior in teaching and learning, need to have strict supervision and create activities connecting teachers and students, helping them understand each other and share good values with each other. Life skills and psychological counseling programs must be invested in and have more depth, providing opportunities for students to learn and equip themselves, knowing how to behave. This is also an opportunity for children to solve problems, control emotions, learn meaningful life values such as peace, love, respect, responsibility, and cooperation.
The psychological counseling room is where children can share and express their innermost stories, the heavy pressures that can come from family, friends, love, and study. Society needs to have legal education and propaganda activities at schools, and localities need to send notices to households, create educational activities such as mobilizing children to attend specialized activities in the neighborhood, and supervise them during their studies and work.
Let children see civility and kindness in behavior at home, at school and in society. Don't let uncivilized and violent lifestyles affect children. These things affect the formation and development of children's personalities.
A happy school is one where both students and teachers are happy. There must be a safe and friendly environment. Teachers expect a Teachers Law with specific and strict legal bases to protect themselves, so that teachers are no longer victims of school violence.
Responding to questions about school violence on November 7, Minister Nguyen Kim Son cited statistics from September 1, 2021 to November 5, 2023, there were 699 cases of school violence nationwide, involving more than 2,016 students, including 854 female students, with an average of 1 case of school violence per 50 educational institutions. In addition, during the prolonged pandemic, students have been studying online for a long time, leading to psychological problems. The psychology of adulthood is also a contributing factor. Minister Nguyen Kim Son cited statistics from the Supreme People’s Court that there are 220,000 divorces each year, of which 70-80% are related to domestic violence. Students in these families can both witness domestic violence and suffer violence and abandonment. Such an environment leads to a very high rate of students involved in school violence. Preventing domestic violence is very important. In addition, social networks and movies related to collective violence are also the causes of school violence. The Commander of the Education sector hopes that related sectors will coordinate to solve this problem. |
