According to Reuters news agency, the decision to upgrade bilateral relations was announced during Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Brasilia.
During talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that Beijing is ready to cooperate with Brasilia as a "golden partner" to help each other succeed.
Xi also said that the Northeast Asian country is willing to work with Brasilia to continuously enrich China-Brazil relations in the new era. According to him, bilateral relations are at their best stage in history.
On the same day, the Brazilian Presidential Office announced that Brazil and China signed 37 agreements in the fields of agriculture, technological cooperation, trade and investment, infrastructure, industry, energy and mining.
Notably, among these agreements, the two countries also decided to establish a connection between China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and Brazil's development strategies.
BRI is an infrastructure development strategy proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and launched in 2013, aiming to connect Asia with Africa and Europe through land and sea routes. Last month, Brazil informed China that it would not formally join BRI.
