THE TALENTS ENTERED THE FINAL ROUND
Round 2 of the 2023 National Volleyball Championship has just ended in Dak Nong and Da Nang, selecting 8 men's teams and 8 women's teams to participate in the final round from November 16 to 19 in Khanh Hoa (men's tournament) and Quang Nam (women's tournament).
Vietnamese volleyball on the road to professionalism
On November 13, Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), said: "In terms of expertise, strong teams with good investment in terms of personnel and finance such as Duc Giang Chemicals, Information Corps - Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc, Ninh Binh, VTV Binh Dien Long An (women), Sanest Khanh Hoa, Border Guard, Ninh Binh, The Cong (men) all demonstrated their value. The encounters between the top teams in the groups were all intense, attractive and of high professional quality. The investment of foreign players by the teams also created a balance, so the matches in the upcoming final round promise to be worth watching."
If they maintain their form, Ninh Binh, Duc Giang Chemicals, and Binh Dot Tin - Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc are expected to win against Thanh Hoa, Vietinbank, and Quang Ninh respectively to enter the semi-finals. The most "brain-tight" quarter-final match is the clash between defending champion Thai Binh and former champion VTV Binh Dien Long An. The early clash in the quarter-finals caused these two potential teams to be eliminated from each other, which is quite unfortunate. This is the match in which Slovenian foreign player Lana Scuka of Thai Binh and Odina Aliyeva (Azerbaijan) of VTV Binh Dien Long An played an important role, deciding not a small part in the ticket to the semi-finals.
In the men's tournament, the four "giants" of Vietnamese volleyball, namely Border Guard, Sanest Khanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, and The Cong, are expected to get tickets to the semi-finals when facing weaker opponents, namely Long An, Da Nang, Ha Tinh, and Ha Noi, respectively. The finals of both the men's and women's tournaments will only really be heated when they reach the semi-finals, because the level of the teams in this group is not different.
TRY TO BE PROFESSIONAL AS SOON AS FOOTBALL
Mr. Le Tri Truong said that the success of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team in recent times has helped the national volleyball championship gain more attraction. "More and more businesses are investing in volleyball, and clubs are also carefully preparing both domestic and foreign players. For our part, VFV is constantly trying to make the tournament more complete and professional. Annual seminars help us make changes to the regulations, adjust the way the national championship is organized to be more professional, such as in the process of reducing the number of participating teams to 8 men's teams, 8 women's teams instead of 10 as at present, increasing the prize money, eliminating the reverse final round (relegation competition)...".
VFV leaders emphasized that in the long term, the national championship will be improved according to the V-League model, such as playing home and away matches and only playing on weekends. "The roadmap has been outlined, but the reality is that many Vietnamese volleyball clubs are "living" on the budget, so they do not have enough potential to play professionally, while the number of professional clubs like V-League can be counted on the fingers. Besides, VFV's human resources are also lacking, financial capacity is also limited, so to become professional, it requires investment and conversion. The path for Vietnamese volleyball to become professional has been outlined with many difficulties and challenges, but we will be determined to make the tournament truly attractive to fans," said Mr. Le Tri Truong.
