On April 22, the Ministry of Health informed that in order to continue to organize the measles vaccination campaign for the subjects and quickly control the epidemic, the Ministry of Health has developed and issued Decision No. 1340/QD-BYT dated April 21, 2025 on the plan to implement the 3rd measles vaccination campaign in 2025.
The vaccine used in this vaccination campaign is 500,000 doses containing measles sponsored by FPT Corporation. It is expected that the first vaccine allocation will be completed before April 30 and the second before May 15.
The Ministry of Health will immediately allocate vaccines to localities to promptly deploy the vaccination campaign.
Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong said the goal of the 3rd phase of the 2025 measles vaccination campaign implementation plan is that 95% of children who have not been vaccinated or have not received enough doses of measles-containing vaccine will be vaccinated with 1 dose of measles-containing vaccine.
The target groups of the plan are: Children 6 months of age who have not yet reached the vaccination schedule in the first and second vaccination campaigns in 2025 and children from 6 months to under 9 months of age who have not been vaccinated in the first and second vaccination campaigns in 2025 in high-risk areas and areas where measles cases/measles outbreaks are occurring; Children from 11 to 15 years old in high-risk/very high-risk communes/wards who have not been vaccinated/have not received enough doses of measles-containing vaccines and children with unknown vaccination history or unknown history of measles.
In response to the World Health Organization's warning of the risk of a measles outbreak in Vietnam and the actual development of the epidemic situation in localities, determining that vaccination is the most effective proactive disease prevention measure, in late 2024 and early 2025, the Ministry of Health organized two vaccination campaigns to prevent and control measles. The 2024 campaign achieved 97.1% and the first phase of the 2025 campaign achieved 95.5%, with the initial implementation target being children from 1 to 10 years old and high-risk groups, then expanding the implementation target to children from 6 months to 9 months old in risk areas and areas where measles cases/measles outbreaks are occurring.
On March 15, 2025, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 23/CD-TTg on accelerating vaccination against measles. Implementing the Prime Minister's direction, the Ministry of Health issued a plan to implement the second phase of the 2025 campaign and achieved a result of 96.4%, continuing to implement it for the target group of children from 6 months to 9 months old and children from 1 year to 10 years old.
Results after implementing measles vaccination campaigns, compared to the first 3 months of 2025, the measles incidence rate has begun to decrease (6%) in the group from 1 to 10 years old (accounting for 61.4%); decreased slightly (0.4%) in the group under 1 year old (accounting for 2.7%, including children under 6 months old who are not indicated for measles vaccination), but increased by 6.4% in the group over 10 years old (accounting for 35.9%, mainly in the group from 11-15 years old accounting for 19.2% and the group over 16 years old accounting for 16.7%)./.
