Ministry of Health calls on people to proactively prevent and fight infectious diseases

On the occasion of the International Day for Epidemic Prevention and Control in 2024, with the message "Together we fulfill our commitments in pandemic prevention and control; together we take stronger actions to prevent and control future pandemics", the Ministry of Health calls on all people to raise their awareness of personal disease prevention, proactively protect their own health, their families' health, and that of society.

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Lien Huong requested all levels and sectors to continue to coordinate with the health sector, mobilize the participation of political organizations, unions, social communities and international friends in preventing and fighting infectious diseases. This activity aims to proactively prevent diseases early and from a distance, limit the spread and outbreak of diseases, ensure social security and contribute to promoting economic development.

The Deputy Minister of Health informed that with diverse transmission methods and forms, and constantly changing pathogens, infectious diseases in general are always unpredictable and difficult to predict.

In 2024, outbreaks of measles, cholera, polio, Marburg... still occur in many countries and regions around the world, warning that infectious diseases are always a present danger to every country.

In Vietnam, by 2024, the situation of infectious diseases nationwide will be basically controlled. Infectious diseases such as dengue fever, hand, foot and mouth disease, and malaria will decrease sharply compared to 2023; no cases of dangerous group A diseases (Ebola, MERS-CoV, influenza A/H7N9) will be recorded entering Vietnam.

After Typhoon Yagi, infectious diseases were well controlled, with no major outbreaks. However, in 2024, some infectious diseases had high incidence rates, such as measles, whooping cough, and rabies. Some diseases, such as dengue fever and diphtheria, increased locally in some localities.

The Ministry of Health requests the People's Committees of provinces and cities to pay attention to and proactively and effectively implement the plan for prevention and control of infectious diseases in 2025. Localities should improve their preventive medicine capacity, forecast, monitor and detect epidemics early, and promptly and effectively control epidemics and public health emergencies.

On this occasion, the Ministry of Health recommends that people need to raise awareness and proactively take personal disease prevention measures, regularly wash their hands with soap and antibacterial hand sanitizer, have adequate nutrition, and practice a healthy lifestyle to prevent infectious diseases.

Dr. Nguyen Luong Tam - Deputy Director of the Department of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health emphasized that to ensure epidemic prevention work, units and localities need to soon have a plan to allocate epidemic prevention funds for facilities of the Ministry of Health.

The reviewed units ensure logistics, funding, drugs, vaccines, supplies, equipment, medical biological products, and ensure national and local reserves for epidemic prevention and control work according to regulations.
