Within the framework of a working trip to Japan from December 18 to 22, on the morning of December 19 (Japan time), Minister Nguyen Hong Dien chaired the Vietnam - Japan Business Forum 2024.
The forum was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and the ASEAN-Japan Center. This is an opportunity for businesses, leaders and experts from both countries to exchange, learn and explore new cooperation opportunities.

Speaking at the Forum, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan and the ASEAN-Japan Center for closely coordinating with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to organize the Vietnam-Japan Business Forum.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said that after more than 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, the Vietnam-Japan cooperative relationship is developing better than ever in all fields. The two countries established a strategic partnership in 2009, upgraded to an extensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia in 2014 and a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world in 2023.
Japan is currently Vietnam's fourth largest trading partner with bilateral trade expected to reach over 46 billion USD in 2024, accounting for 6% of Vietnam's total import-export turnover with the world. Japan is Vietnam's fourth largest export market and third largest import market.
Vietnam is very pleased to witness the strong development of Japan and warmly congratulates you for affirming your position and influence in the region as well as globally, when you are considered one of the most stable and developed economies in the world; a center of innovation with high scientific and technological level.
Japan is also known as a country with many achievements in developing renewable energy and new energy, including nuclear energy with clean energy solutions and green technology.

For his part, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien said that Vietnam is one of the most dynamic economies in the region and the world, with a GDP of about 500 billion USD, ranking 3rd in ASEAN and 32nd in the world.
In terms of foreign trade, Vietnam is one of the top 20 economies in international trade with an import-export turnover of nearly 800 billion USD and is a full member of 18 free trade agreements with most major economic partners in the world.
In terms of attracting foreign investment, Vietnam is highly appreciated by the international community and has become one of the safe and attractive investment destinations for businesses with the presence of over 41,300 projects, with a total registered capital of nearly 500 billion USD from 111 countries and territories. With that result, Vietnam was included in the list of the top 15 countries attracting FDI in the world by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in 2022.
“The above achievements of the two economies of Vietnam and Japan are remarkable and worthy of pride” - Minister Nguyen Hong Dien highly appreciated, but looking at reality, the Minister said that in the coming time, both the Vietnamese and Japanese economies will continue to face difficulties and challenges of a global nature, which are fast-moving, complex and difficult to predict; requiring open, deeply integrated economies like Vietnam and Japan to cooperate more closely and effectively, especially in the fields of trade, industry and energy to jointly respond and enhance the resilience of each economy.
“ For Vietnam, in the process of international economic integration, we not only aim to increase export turnover but also focus on building a material production, a green, clean and sustainable industry” - the Minister informed and added that the Vietnamese Government has committed to achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. At COP28 taking place in December 2023, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh announced the Plan to mobilize resources to implement the Political Declaration establishing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) between Vietnam and the International Partnership Group (IPG), in which Japan is one of the important partners.

With the support of partners, Vietnam is stepping up efforts to develop renewable energy sources, green energy applying advanced technology in industrial and energy production; at the same time, restarting the nuclear power development program and the nuclear power project in Ninh Thuan to ensure national energy security towards the Net Zero goal.
With its strengths in capital, high technology and modern management, Vietnam hopes that Japanese enterprises will research and soon have new investment projects in Vietnam, especially high-tech projects in areas that Vietnam has demand for and has preferential investment policies such as: Semiconductor industry, manufacturing, electronics, chemicals, new materials and new energy (including: renewable energy, new energy, nuclear power...).
The Government and ministries and sectors of Vietnam are ready to coordinate with Japanese authorities to provide legal support and act as an effective bridge for the business communities of the two countries to implement future cooperation activities. Vietnam pledges to always share, accompany, and create the most favorable conditions in accordance with the law and commensurate with the good friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries to help Japanese enterprises invest, produce, and do business effectively and sustainably in Vietnam. Because the success of Japanese enterprises in Vietnam is the success of Vietnam.

In return, Vietnam also hopes that Japanese authorities will create favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises in the process of researching, exploring investment opportunities, investment cooperation and developing production and business in the beautiful land of the rising sun.
Before the Vietnam - Japan Business Forum took place, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a meeting with the Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan.
