Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Thang has been in the Border Guard for 30 years, graduated from the Border Guard Academy, Provincial Border Guard Command (Postgraduate class), and Senior Political Officer (Dalat Army Academy, Ministry of National Defense).
On July 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard held a conference to implement Decision 155/QDD of the Minister of National Defense appointing Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Thang, Deputy Chief of Staff, to hold the position of Deputy Commander of Operations, Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard, and handing over the responsibilities and tasks of Deputy Commander of Operations. Colonel Tran Thanh Duc, Commander of Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard chaired the conference.

Before taking on the new assignment, he was the Chief of the My Quy Tay Border Guard Station (Duc Hue District, Long An Province); Commander of the Ho Chi Minh City Port Border Guard; Deputy Chief of Staff, and Head of the Training Department, Staff Department, Ho Chi Minh City Border Guard.
