Some integrated subjects at secondary school level after 2 years of implementation have revealed many shortcomings. According to Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, the Ministry also recognized that implementing integrated subjects is 'a big challenge' and said: 'Integrated subjects are a 'chicken and egg' story'.
Recently, in Thanh Nien Newspaper, many opinions have pointed out that currently, integrated subjects such as natural sciences are mainly mechanical combinations, not clearly showing integration and interdisciplinary characteristics. The programs of these subjects do not have integration corresponding to the subject names. Teachers (GV) who teach single subjects, although trained and fostered, still do not meet the requirements for teaching quality of these integrated subjects.

At the working session of the National Assembly 's Supervisory Delegation on the afternoon of July 27, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Hoa, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, said that this is the "most difficult" issue at present and there are still many concerns from schools and teachers. Therefore, Ms. Hoa suggested that there are contents that need to be clarified related to this integrated subject: is the textbook really called the textbook of the integrated subject or is it just combining 2-3 subjects into one textbook? In some places, a single subject teacher is arranged to attend a 6-month training course on integrated teaching; in other places, 2-3 teachers teach one subject. The training of teachers to ensure the standards for teaching integrated subjects is currently only provided by a few pedagogical schools, but no teachers have been "produced" yet...
According to Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, the Ministry also sees the implementation of integrated subjects as "a big challenge" and believes: "Integrated subjects are a "chicken and egg" story. Resolution 88 of the National Assembly requires the integration of a number of subjects at the secondary school level. If the program does not design integrated subjects, teacher training colleges will have no basis to train integrated teachers. When starting to implement, we must use the old teaching staff, gradually train them to convert, and cannot wait until 4 years of training integrated teachers to graduate before implementing this program."
Therefore, according to Minister Son, there will be two immediate integration paths: one is to return to the old single subjects; the second path is to persist in innovation and calculate a roadmap until a certain year when old teachers are fully trained in the required conditions and will be completed. This must be considered a professional issue and needs to be implemented, not set a time requirement, which month this issue must be completed.
Mr. Son also emphasized the fact: "This is a very fundamental and comprehensive innovation, but the factors that ensure it (teachers, facilities, etc. - PV) have not been fundamentally and comprehensively innovated." Therefore, the head of the education and training sector hopes that the monitoring team will "take into account" these factors when evaluating and proposing solutions.
