Many member schools of Ho Chi Minh City National University have just simultaneously announced information on master's and doctoral enrollment for the first round of 2024, notably schools that consider admission instead of entrance exams.
No more basic and fundamental exams in master's admission
The University of Science (Ho Chi Minh City National University) has just announced the first round of master's degree enrollment in 2024, with two forms of direct admission and selection.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Tuyet Phuong - Head of the Graduate Training Department of the University of Natural Sciences, this is the first time the admission method without entrance exams has been applied. The school no longer takes entrance exams for basic subjects in graduate admissions, but only considers admission.
This new admission method has many advantages, helping to increase the chances of candidates applying. Candidates only need to complete the application and submit it to the school's postgraduate training department to be considered for admission.
"Candidates are evaluated based on their academic achievements and real potential. Everyone has a fair chance to demonstrate their abilities and each candidate can register for up to three majors for admission, instead of only being able to register for one major for the exam format as in previous years," said Ms. Tuyet Phuong.
According to Ms. Tuyet Phuong, eliminating the entrance exam helps reduce pressure and stress, saves time for candidates to review, and at the same time creates conditions for candidates to focus more on preparing documents and improving study skills, especially through performance in the admission essay.
The admission process also creates conditions for candidates to develop more comprehensively, encouraging candidates to demonstrate their academic abilities comprehensively through their academic results, achievements and awards during their efforts as students.
Essay writing, face-to-face interviews instead of entrance exams
This year, the University of Technology and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) also promoted direct admission and selection, along with direct assessment of candidates' skills, attitudes, and professional knowledge through direct interviews instead of graduate entrance exams.
Direct admission evaluation method when candidates fully meet the conditions: candidates graduate from university in the same major as the major they registered for direct admission.
The main admission subjects are those who have graduated from a regular university with a training program of 150 credits or more; graduated from a university with honors with an average score of 8.0 or higher (on a 10-point scale); graduated from a university as valedictorian or won 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prizes in domestic and international student Olympic competitions.
The maximum direct admission period is 24 months from the date of signing the graduation certificate to the date of application submission.
For the admission form, schools consider candidates who have graduated from the correct major or major close to the registered major (graduated from university within 24 months from the date of application submission).
Candidates who have graduated from engineering and talented bachelor training programs of Ho Chi Minh City National University; programs accredited according to international and regional standards; graduated from university with good grades or higher from training institutions accredited according to international and regional standards.
Dr. Pham Tan Ha - Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities - said: "The school also has a combined admission form for candidates applying to majors that require writing essays on the topic of graduate school admission essays."
Meanwhile, the Polytechnic University applies the method of directly assessing candidates' skills, attitudes, and professional knowledge through direct interviews.
This method is for candidates who have graduated from university in the same major, related major, or major different from the major they registered for. Candidates are not eligible for direct admission and are selected through application evaluation.
