On the morning of April 7, speaking with VietNamNet reporter, Mr. Tong Quang Thanh, Chairman of Van An Ward People's Committee (Bac Ninh City) said that at around 2:00 a.m. the same day, the landslide incident on the right bank of Cau dike at km49+750 to km49+800 continued to occur.

"Five houses of local people have collapsed into Cau River. Given the situation, we have evacuated people to ensure safety," Mr. Thanh said, adding that there are still no specific statistics on the damage and the number of households that have to be evacuated.

The landslide incident on Cau River bank continues to occur.

According to Mr. Thanh, the incident did not cause any human damage. However, it greatly affected people's property.

"In the immediate future, we will focus on stabilizing temporary accommodation for the affected people. The temporary plan is for people to stay at the old kindergarten," Mr. Thanh informed.

Mr. Chu Van Khang, Head of Van Phuc Quarter (Van An Ward) said that Van Phuc is an ancient village along the Cau River dike for many generations. However, this is the first time that a landslide has occurred on the riverbank and houses.

In recent days, local residents have supported families in need of evacuation to a safe place, and have been on duty 24/7 to monitor landslide developments to promptly report to the People's Committee of Van An Ward and relevant authorities.

Authorities have put up warning signs at the landslide site.

The People's Committee of Van An Ward (Bac Ninh City) has directed the functional forces to put up warning signs, build a barrier system, closely monitor the incident, and prepare all necessary materials, human resources, and equipment to be able to mobilize immediately if the incident continues. At the same time, develop plans and scenarios to evacuate people from the incident area.

According to the Department of Irrigation, the preliminary cause is due to the change in the mainstream of this area, approaching the right bank, combined with the narrow riverbed creating deep erosion holes close to the right bank causing landslides.

Previously, in November 2023, the Cau River dike subsidence occurred seriously, causing landslides at km49+190 to km40+430 close to the fences and houses of many households.

To handle the above incident, the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province issued a decision to declare an emergency situation regarding the dike incident and to build emergency works to prevent landslides.

About 100m away, the emergency treatment project for the landslide incident at Huu Cau dike, Van An ward is being implemented.

The project to urgently handle the landslide incident of Huu Cau dike, Van An ward (Bac Ninh city) at km49+190 to km40+430, 180m long, has a total cost of about 55 billion VND, invested by the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development).

Bac Ninh Construction Joint Stock Company is urgently constructing, reaching 80% of the volume so far, striving to complete before April 30, meeting the requirements of flood prevention during this year's rainy and stormy season and the travel needs of the people.

In addition, to completely handle the landslide of Huu Cau dike, there needs to be a plan to handle encroachment on the river causing changes in the flow.

According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Trinh, Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Ninh, currently, functional departments and branches are urgently completing documents and investment procedures to develop a plan to urgently handle the dike incident.
