On November 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that according to the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar, in recent days, the security situation in some northern states of Myanmar has had many complicated developments. This is also an area where many Vietnamese citizens are living and working.
Members of the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army walk past a military base captured during clashes near Laukkaing town in Shan State in northern Myanmar on October 28.
Faced with that situation, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in Myanmar has urgently developed citizen protection plans; at the same time, proactively and actively discussed with local authorities, requesting the Myanmar side to have a plan to support, ensure security, safety and living conditions for Vietnamese citizens, and create conditions for Vietnamese citizens to leave the dangerous area.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also proactively discussed with the authorities of China and Myanmar to request support for Vietnam in protecting people in the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to advise Vietnamese citizens that if not absolutely necessary, they should not go to or avoid going to Shan State, Kayin State and Rakhine State, Myanmar; if they are in the above 3 areas, they need to quickly have a proactive plan to safely evacuate people and property to a third country or to Vietnam; at the same time, regularly monitor information from local authorities and warnings from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Previously, on November 9, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said that Myanmar authorities had taken hundreds of foreign citizens, including Vietnamese citizens, out of fraudulent casinos in the northern border area of Myanmar.
To date, 166 Vietnamese citizens have been identified among the rescued foreign nationals. These people have been brought to safety in the northern border area of Myanmar, adjacent to the Chinese border.
The Brotherhood Alliance, comprising AA, MNDAA and Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) rebel groups, previously claimed to have taken control of dozens of outposts and four towns, while blocking key trade routes to China.
On October 27, the Brotherhood Alliance launched Operation 1027, attacking a series of Myanmar military bases in Shan and Kachin states. This is considered the largest attack by insurgent groups against Myanmar's military government since the 2021 coup.
