Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Danh Huy expressed his gratitude and emphasized the support that Australia has given to Vietnam in general and the transport sector in particular.

For decades, Australia has been one of the leading countries providing official development assistance (ODA) to Vietnam, supporting Vietnam in many fields, helping with socio-economic development.

In particular, the transport sector has received great support from the Australian Government, marked by many transport infrastructure projects symbolizing the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Australia.

Australia's ODA capital not only helps to improve transport infrastructure but also transfers technology, helps to improve the management level of Vietnamese staff and engineers. At the same time, it supports many practical projects and works for the sustainable development of Vietnam.

A typical example is the $30 million Aus4Transport Technical Assistance Program that ended on June 30, 2024. The program has supported project development, improved pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, technical designs and bidding documents conducted by the Ministry of Transport, and strengthened the management capacity of the transport sector.

Another proof of the effectiveness of the two sides' cooperation in the field of transport is that the aviation authorities of the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding in early December 2023; accordingly, air transport will increase to 56 flights/week, meeting the increasing travel needs of people of the two countries in the coming time.

On behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Transport, Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy expressed his gratitude to the Government, people and the Australian Embassy for their cooperation, support and help for Vietnam and the transport sector to develop sustainably.

"In the great support of the Australian Government for Vietnam, there is a significant contribution from Mr. Benjamin Davis, First Secretary of the Australian Embassy in Vietnam. During his term in Vietnam, as First Secretary, Mr. Benjamin Davis made many effective and positive contributions to strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship between Australia and Vietnam in general and between the Vietnamese Ministry of Transport and the Embassy in particular," said Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy.

Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski thanked the leaders of the Ministry of Transport for acknowledging and appreciating the effective cooperation of the Australian Embassy and its staff. This demonstrates the affection and strong cooperative relationship between the two sides.

"Australian Embassy staff working in Vietnam always receive sincere and open feelings from Vietnamese people. When leaving Vietnam, no matter where they work or what position they hold, they always have special feelings for Vietnam. Each of us is always an "Ambassador" of Vietnam," Ambassador Andrew Goledzinowski shared.

Mr. Benjamin Davis shared that he came to Vietnam at a time when Vietnam was dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. Through practice, it has been shown that transportation plays an extremely important role in responding to the pandemic and restoring and developing the economy and society after the pandemic.

The Aus4Transport program was also affected by the pandemic, but with the hard work and active cooperation of Vietnamese transport officials and civil servants with the Australian Embassy, the program was promoted and concluded successfully, ensuring the set results.

"From the cooperation between the two sides, I have learned a lot of experience. I believe that the two sides have many more opportunities for cooperation in the future. Vietnam always has a special place in my heart," said Mr. Benjamin Davis.
