According to the Ministry of Education and Training, for schools using multiple admission methods, the school must develop rules for converting equivalent scores to the entrance threshold and admission scores to ensure compliance with admission regulations, in which the contents are implemented consistently according to the Ministry's instructions.
What is the process for building point conversion rules?
The Ministry aims to set simple equivalence point conversion rules, ensuring the selection of candidates who best meet the input requirements of the training program, industry, and group of industries.
The Ministry of Education and Training requires that the conversion of scores must have a scientific and practical basis, including statistical data information, analysis of the learning outcomes of admitted students according to the combinations and annual high school graduation exam scores.
Information on the detailed score distribution of schools organizing the exam, academic results (if the school uses the admission results); use of the admission scores (including the total score of the combination/assessment results... and bonus points) to determine the conversion rules; announce the admission scores for candidates according to each admission method.
For training institutions that organize their own exams (capacity assessment, thinking assessment, etc.): announce the score distribution and develop a plan to convert their exam results to high school graduation exam scores.
In the immediate future, it is possible to announce the conversion rules with the score results of 2024 so that schools can use these exam results as reference and develop rules; announce the conversion rules for the results of separate exams;
When the 2025 high school graduation exam results are available, the Ministry of Education and Training will announce the standard conversion rules.
Take high school exam score data as the basis to build conversion rules
According to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, schools use high school graduation exam score data or high school transcript data as the basis for developing conversion rules.
Based on statistical data, analyze the academic results of students who were admitted according to the combinations of previous years. Specifically: Statistics on the number of candidates admitted according to each admission method for at least 2 consecutive years; the academic results of each student at the school.
Based on the analysis of the correlation between the school's academic performance and the score distribution of the admission methods of the same group of candidates; from the threshold to ensure input quality to the maximum score of the assessment scale, the school must determine at least 3 score ranges (for example: excellent - good, fair and pass) to build at least 3 linear correlation functions (3 first-order functions) for these 3 score ranges.
Specifically: Build a conversion table and interpolate the continuous linear correlation function between the scores of the two admission methods (using the method of considering high school graduation exam results as the basis).
Point conversion table
The corresponding linear correlation function is:
Satisfy f(Ak) = Bk. From there determine the correlation coefficients Mk, Nk.
Based on the above plan, and at the same time, based on the standard rules announced by the Ministry after the results of the 2025 high school graduation exam are available, schools will, based on the specific characteristics of the training program/industry/industry group, complete the school's conversion rules and announce them according to regulations.
How to convert equivalent points between methods
For example: Analyzing the results of the same group of candidates using the 2024 high school graduation exam results and academic records (6 semesters) according to 5 traditional blocks;
Based on the assessment of students' academic results in previous years, it shows that: excellent candidates account for 30% of the total number of admitted candidates, corresponding to the high school exam results of 24.75 and the admission score of the transcript is 25.75; good candidates or better account for 80% of the total number of candidates, the corresponding high school exam results of 20.5 and the admission score of the transcript is 22.0; the rest are at the passing level.
Accordingly, schools can use the scores (24.75; 25.75); (20.5; 22) along with the threshold score to ensure input quality and the maximum score of the assessment scale (30; 30) to linearize each region and establish a formula (first-degree equation form) to convert the equivalent admission score between the two methods.
Assuming the cutoff score is 15 for both methods, then:
A candidate A has a grade point average of 23 and will be converted to the original method scale score, which is the method based on high school graduation exam scores, as follows:
In addition, it can be seen that the difference in scores (6-semester report card scores and high school graduation exam scores) fluctuates between 1.0 - 1.5 points for this group of candidates.
Another example: Equivalent conversion of admission scores between the admission method using the results of the thinking assessment test and the admission method using the results of the high school graduation exam.
Based on analysis of academic score data, thinking assessment test scores and graduation exam scores
High school of the same group of candidates at University A established the conversion table:
Specifically, a candidate with a score according to the thinking assessment method (thinking assessment test score + bonus points if any) of 68.68 points, then the converted score according to the high school method will be:
