Ministry of Education and Training issues time frame for school year 2024

Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that students return to school at least 1 week before the opening day. For grade 1 students, they return to school at least 2 weeks before the opening day. The new school year will start on September 5, 2024.

Schools must finish the first semester before January 18, 2025; complete the program and end the school year before May 31, 2025; consider recognition of completion of primary school program and recognition of secondary school graduation before June 30, 2025; complete enrollment of first-level classes before July 31, 2025.

The 2025 high school graduation exam is scheduled to take place on June 26-27, 2025; other national exams will be organized according to regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Regarding the principles of building local school year plans, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates: local school year plans must ensure 35 weeks of actual study (semester I has 18 weeks, semester II has 17 weeks); suitable to the characteristics and practical conditions of the locality.

Holidays and Tet holidays are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guidelines. Teachers' annual leave is implemented during the summer vacation or can be arranged alternately at other times of the year to suit the specific characteristics and school year schedule of the locality.

The Ministry noted: the school year schedule needs to ensure consistency for all levels of education in a residential area, especially in general schools with many levels of education.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of a province or centrally-run city decides on the school year schedule for preschool education, general education and continuing education in accordance with local realities.

The time to start school early and the time to extend the school year shall not exceed 15 days compared to the regulations to ensure the implementation and completion of preschool education, general education and continuing education programs in case of natural disasters or epidemics; for special cases arising, the locality shall report to the Ministry of Education and Training before implementation.

The Director of the Department of Education and Training decides to let students stay home from school in case of extreme weather or natural disasters and arrange make-up classes; ensure teachers' time off during the school year.

At the same time, report to the Ministry of Education and Training on the preparation for the school year and the organization of the opening ceremony of the 2024-2025 school year before September 10, 2024. Summarize the implementation of tasks and key solutions for the 2024-2025 school year and the results of implementing the emulation criteria, and propose consideration of rewards for the school year before June 25, 2025.
