With a 231.74 km long border adjacent to China, border diplomacy in Lang Son not only contributes to maintaining regional security but also strengthens friendship between the two countries.
In mid-April 2023, at marker 1250, Chi Ma Border Guard Station and Chi Lang Border Guard Station (Lang Son Border Guard, Vietnam) coordinated with Ninh Minh Border Management Company of Sung Ta Border Management Team, Guangxi, China to organize general legal propaganda for people on both sides of the border.
At the meeting, the two sides held talks and exchanged propaganda methods; informed each other about the situation of border management and protection and deployed border control activities to combat illegal entry and exit and cross-border smuggling in the coming time.
The two sides also disseminated laws to border residents on each side; introduced and instructed on how to check border markers and directions; and violations of the Border Management and Protection Regulations.

This coordinated propaganda activity is regularly maintained by the Chi Ma Border Guard Station. In 2024, the Chi Ma Border Guard and Ai Diem Border Guard (China) coordinated, directly propagated, disseminated the law and distributed over 2,000 leaflets with extracts of legal regulations printed in both Vietnamese and Chinese to more than 1,000 people, drivers carrying goods, and passengers entering and exiting the border gates on both sides.
At other border gates in Lang Son province, the Border Guards on both sides of the border also coordinate annually to propagate and disseminate laws. In 2024, the Border Guards on both sides coordinated to propagate to over 10,000 people of the two countries and passengers passing through the border gates. The propaganda content focused on the legal regulations of the two countries Vietnam - China; 3 legal documents on border management, land border gates between Vietnam - China and legal documents related to exit and entry procedures. At the same time, leaflets were distributed with extracts of the legal regulations of both sides printed in Vietnamese, Chinese and English. In addition, the functional forces on both sides also directly explained and clarified some regulations on crossing the border gates on both sides for people and tourists.
Mr. Thai Van Sy (in My Phong commune, Phu My district, Binh Dinh province) regularly goes back and forth between Tan Thanh border gate (Vietnam) and Po Chai border gate (China). He said: "The regular coordination of the Border Guard forces of both sides to propagate and disseminate laws has helped people crossing the border and border gates of both sides understand and raise awareness and sense of compliance with the laws of Vietnam and China."
The coordination of propaganda and dissemination of laws has helped people on both sides and passengers passing through border gates and borders to be aware of and strictly comply with the agreements and regulations on border management and land border gates between Vietnam and China.
Besides legal propaganda, border diplomacy work between Lang Son Provincial Border Guard and Chinese functional forces continues to be strengthened.
Lieutenant Colonel Leu Minh Tien, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Lang Son Provincial Border Guard, said: Every year, the Border Guard forces of the two sides always maintain solidarity and friendship; closely coordinate in border management and protection, combating and preventing all kinds of crimes and cross-border infiltration activities. The two sides also promptly inform each other about the economic, social, security and order situation in the border areas of each country; maintain and strictly manage border crossing activities. At the same time, advise authorities at all levels on economic, cultural and social development in the border areas; step up propaganda for people on both sides of the border about the solidarity and friendship between Vietnam and China.

Accordingly, the functional forces of the two sides have regularly done a good job of exchanging information. In 2024, the Border Guard Command of Lang Son province, border posts and the Border Guard of Guangxi region, the General Border Control Station of Guangxi (China) exchanged 344 letters on the work of coordinating the management and protection of borders and border gates; fighting and preventing crimes; preventing illegal entry and exit; verifying, returning and receiving citizens of both sides illegally entering and exiting the country; preventing and fighting epidemics; customs clearance activities at border gates... At the same time, 20 regular talks were held to assess the work of coordinating the management and protection of the border; maintaining the mechanism of communication, information exchange, and situations related to the activities of all types of crimes, illegal entry and exit; resolving incidents arising at the border according to the agreement on border management regulations between Vietnam and China; Advisory work for authorities at all levels on both sides to promptly resolve border incidents...
Thanks to the coordination, in 2024, the authorities discovered and handed over to Vietnam 16 wanted subjects related to drugs, human trafficking, and property appropriation. At the same time, 37 wanted subjects from China who fled to Vietnam were also handed over to the other side.
In the coming time, the Border Guard of Lang Son province will continue to strengthen border diplomacy, improve foreign language skills and legal knowledge for officers and soldiers, and modernize equipment for border management.
