Prolonged heavy rains in recent times have caused flash floods and landslides in many areas, affecting the production process of enterprises. This phenomenon also creates many potential and unsafe risks for production sectors such as mineral exploitation.
A serious accident recently occurred at Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company - Vinacomin under the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group, killing 4 workers. The tailings reservoir incident at Dong Ta Phoi Joint Stock Company affected the environment in the downstream area of the reservoir.
Faced with the above situation, to ensure safety in mineral exploitation and processing, the Minister of Industry and Trade requested mineral exploitation and processing units to strengthen inspection of compliance with safety procedures, regulations and rules in production stages by all levels of management and workers.
Units also need to review designs, construction methods, rules, regulations and operating procedures for machines and equipment to supplement and adjust them to suit production realities, ensuring safe work.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade also requested the Department of Industry and Trade of provinces and cities to preside over and coordinate with relevant units in the area to strengthen inspection and handling of violations of safety in mineral exploitation and processing, and safety of tailings reservoirs according to regulations.
