On the afternoon of January 11, the Ministry of Public Security held a ceremony to announce the decision to establish and launch Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1.

The Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1 was established with the aim of contributing to ensuring the security and safety of United Nations personnel and assets; participating in protecting civilians, ensuring security and order and supporting the activities of United Nations peacekeeping missions.

The establishment and launch of the Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1 is a particularly important event for the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam, continuing to affirm the consistent foreign policy and commitment of the Party and State of Vietnam to actively participate with the United Nations and the international community in maintaining a peaceful, stable, cooperative and developing environment in the world.

Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1 is the first unit of the Ministry of Public Security established to participate in United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Speaking at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang - Deputy Minister of Public Security affirmed that the officers and soldiers of the Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1 are not only honored and proud but also have the opportunity to practice and improve their political qualities, qualifications and working capacity in an international environment.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Nam, Commander of Peacekeeping Police Unit No. 1, said that despite facing hardships and difficulties, with the pride of a soldier of the Vietnam People's Police, the unit will be determined to carry out its mission.

"When we deploy this unit, it will create a friendly image of Vietnam, and at the same time be known by many countries for its increasingly good role in ensuring peace and security in the world," said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Nam.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, since 2022, with the support of the United Nations, peacekeeping partner countries and international organizations and the Ministry of National Defense, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has organized training and participated in training courses at home and abroad for more than 70 People's Public Security officers.

These officers are trained to be ready to participate in peacekeeping operations. Currently, the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security has 15 officers who meet the requirements of the United Nations.

Of which, the Ministry of Public Security sent Working Group No. 1 and No. 2, including 6 officers to perform peacekeeping duties at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS); sent 1 officer to perform duties at the United Nations Police Department.

At the same time, the Ministry of Public Security is also completing the process of sending Working Group No. 3 consisting of 3 officers to carry out tasks at the UNISFA Mission.

When participating in UN peacekeeping missions, officers of the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security have promoted their qualities, abilities, and professional qualifications, and quickly adapted to the conditions and operating environment of the United Nations.

Besides, the officers will spread the beautiful image of the country and people of Vietnam as friendly, hospitable and peace-loving to the United Nations and international friends.
