Binh Dinh establishes the first live blood bank in the mountainous district

Celebrating 10 years of accompanying the Red Journey Program, Binh Dinh province has organized 5 blood donation festivals in Hoai Nhon Town, Tay Son District, An Nhon Town, Quy Nhon City and Van Canh District. In which, the mountainous district of Van Canh participated in the “Red Drops of Vo Land” festival for the first time and launched the Living Blood Bank Club.

Van Canh is a mountainous district, located in the southwest of Binh Dinh province, about 30km from Quy Nhon city, the district has nearly 30,000 people living, most of whom are ethnic minorities.

Responding to the Red Journey Program of Red Drops of Vo Land, on the evening of July 16-17 in the mountainous district of Van Canh, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation (VBD) of the district deployed the Red Journey program with the theme "Red Drops of Vo Land" - Van Canh district for the first time.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Khoi - General Director of VTV Corp, Deputy Head of the Central Red Journey Organizing Committee presented the Red Journey logo to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Viet - Permanent Vice Chairman of Van Canh District People's Committee, Head of the Red Journey Organizing Committee of Van Canh District at the gala night in Van Canh District.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the program, Mr. Ha Van Cat - Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society, Deputy Head of the Provincial Red Journey Steering Committee emphasized: “The selection of Van Canh, a mountainous district with many difficulties, mostly inhabited by ethnic minorities, aims to spread the blood donation movement of the district widely, overcoming all difficulties and challenges in the voluntary blood donation movement. Although this is the first time organizing the Red Journey program, Van Canh district has a very high number of people participating in voluntary blood donation, this is a positive signal that needs to be maintained and promoted.

This is a national voluntary blood donation campaign with profound humanitarian and humanitarian significance, to accompany the locality, calling on social forces to participate in donating blood to save patients, while at the same time educating people about how to prevent and treat Thalassemia and carry out local social and humanitarian activities.

Mr. Phan Van Hiep - Chairman of the District Red Cross Society approved the Decision to establish the Van Canh "Living Blood Bank" Club initially with 15 members.

Van Canh is one of the localities that organized the program "Red Journey" for the first time, but has implemented many exciting activities in the organization method as well as implementing the volunteer activity model, mobilizing blood donation such as: training for more than 50 volunteers, union members, and youth from communes in the district in organizing the voluntary blood donation festival "Giot Hong Dat Vo" - Van Canh district and honoring individuals and groups of typical blood donors.

Participating in the opening ceremony of the first Red Journey in Van Canh district, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Viet - Standing Vice Chairman of Van Canh District People's Committee, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Red Journey program in Van Canh district excitedly shared: "This is the first time the Red Journey has come to the district. The Party Committee and people of Van Canh mountainous district are very happy to receive the attention and support from the Central Organizing Committee of the Red Journey program, the Provincial Red Cross Society and local authorities at all levels. I also want to thank the businesses, companies, and benefactors who have sponsored the Red Journey program in 2023 as well as the Red Journey in Van Canh district. Thank you to the volunteers, you are the typical force, selected from the localities, who have been thoroughly trained before participating in the journey. You are the indispensable force contributing to the success of today's program.

Qui Phuc Trading and Service Company Limited directly donated 10 sets of tables and chairs to people in difficult circumstances in Van Canh district.

Also within the framework of the activities, the Red Journey program in Van Canh district organized a ceremony to honor and award certificates of merit to 16 outstanding groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in the voluntary blood donation movement. In addition, the program also had activities to give gifts to the poor and people in difficult circumstances in the district. In which, Qui Phuc Trading and Service Company Limited directly donated 10 sets of tables and chairs in the program of the Red Drops of Vo land gala in Van Canh district.

Currently, for areas with many difficulties such as Van Canh district, where medical centers are far away or medical conditions are limited, blood reserves are not always available. Therefore, in case of emergency requiring blood transfusion, it is not easy to need people in good health with safe blood tests, blood type compatible with the patient, ready to donate blood as quickly as possible to promptly transfuse to the patient. On this occasion, the Standing Committee of the District Red Cross decided to establish the "Van Canh District Live Blood Bank". Initially with 15 members, Mr. Nguyen Van Huy - Deputy Secretary in charge of the District Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union as the chairman. The Van Canh Live Blood Bank Club operates according to the regulations of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, under the direct guidance of the Standing Committee of the Van Canh District Red Cross Society. Club members are the core force in propaganda, mobilization, and voluntary blood donation organization activities of the District Red Cross Society and the District Voluntary Blood Donation Steering Committee.

Mr. Luong Dinh Tien, Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Canh district, participated in donating blood at the Red Drops of Vo land festival in Van Canh district.

Members of the live blood bank are healthy people who meet the criteria for blood donation, registered and ready to donate blood when there is a patient in need of blood but the local medical facility does not have enough blood in reserve. The construction of a live blood bank in the mountainous district of Van Canh is very practical because it contributes directly to emergency and treatment work, helping people feel more secure because there is a safe source of blood for treatment stored right in the healthy local community.

After the gala night of the Red Drops of Vo festival in Van Canh district, attracting a large number of cadres, employees, and people to donate blood, 329 units of blood were collected, exceeding the initial target.

The 2023 Red Journey is the 10th year that Binh Dinh province has organized the Red Journey. In the past 9 times, the province has always exceeded the target set by the Central Government, receiving 13,000 units of blood, contributing significantly to the total amount of blood to treat patients of the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the province during the time of blood shortage. In 2023, the province aims to achieve over 2,000 units of blood; in which, the focus is on organizing the Gala to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Red Journey in Quy Nhon City and 5 "Red Blood Drops of Vo Land" Festivals in Hoai Nhon Town, Tay Son District, An Nhon Town, Quy Nhon City and Van Canh District.
