Ancient villa at risk of being demolished to build a road along Dong Nai river

NDO - Before the information about the demolition of the 100-year-old architectural work "Mr. Phu's mansion" in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province to implement the construction of the Dong Nai riverside road project, on the afternoon of September 20, Dong Nai province authorities surveyed the location of the affected construction.

The ancient villa of Governor Vo Ha Thanh in Buu Long ward, Bien Hoa city (also known as Governor's house) was built in 1924. The house has 2 floors, built in Western architectural style.

All interior decorations were ordered from France and transported by ship. The villa is located along the Dong Nai River and has cultural, historical and architectural value.

The villa was built in 1924.

Over a century, the interior architecture of the house is still preserved.

The construction of the Dong Nai riverside road, from Hoa An bridge to Vinh Cuu district, puts this ancient villa at risk of being demolished. At the scene, the road has been constructed right next to the villa.

Ms. Dang Thi Linh Phuong (left), who lives in the villa, said she moved in in 1978 and the house was built by her great-grandfather.

In response to reports that the architectural work of “Mr. Phu’s mansion” will be demolished during the construction of the Dong Nai riverside road project, on the afternoon of September 20, the Department of Construction of Dong Nai province chaired and coordinated with relevant units to conduct a survey of the villa.

Chairman of the Dong Nai Province Historical Science Association Tran Quang Toai said that the house has historical and cultural significance since the early 20th century. If we preserve this ancient villa, we will create a connection in culture, history, and tourism along the Dong Nai River.

Doctor of Science, Architect Ngo Viet Nam Son said that there are many ways for us to preserve this ancient villa. The first way is to ask the genie to move inside. The second way is to re-align the road to encroach on the Dong Nai River a little bit to leave the villa.

According to documents, 100% of the villa's construction materials were imported from France a century ago.

According to architects, historical researchers need to find measures to preserve the villa.

After surveying and consulting with relevant departments, branches and units, Dong Nai Department of Construction will report to the Provincial People's Committee for solutions for this architectural work.
