When questioned while sitting on the judge's chair of the National Piano Competition, People's Artist Trung Hieu reacted unexpectedly.

The 2024 National Open Piano Competition (Festival Piano Talents 2024) is organized by the Vietnam Institute for Educational and Cultural Development in collaboration with the Department of Grassroots Culture - Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

This is the first time an open piano competition for ages 5-18 has been held nationwide. The competition hopes to spread the love of music to students and parents who love the piano. In addition, the competition also hopes to discover and nurture many musical talents towards professionalism following the general trend of society.

Accordingly, the "National Open Piano Competition" will take place from January 2, 2024 to March 24, 2024. The Final Night will be held at the National Academy of Music.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Head of the Organizing Committee, President of the Vietnam Institute for Education and Cultural Development, said that the competition is divided into 5 groups according to age: 5-7 years old (Group A), 8-10 years old (Group B), 11-13 years old (Group C), 14-16 years old (Group D), 17-18 years old (Group E). Each contestant performs 1 piece of their choice (free genre, priority given to classical works, Etude, Prelude, Polonaise, Nocturne, Mazurka, Waltz, Ballade, Scherzo, Aria, Sonatin... or Vietnamese works in the Piano curriculum of the Vietnam National Academy of Music).

The contest jury members include: Dr. Dao Trong Tuyen, People's Artist Pham Ngoc Khoi, Master Luong Duc Thang, Teacher Vu Do Thang, Artist Minh Le, Master Nguyen Van Thuong, Master Ha Tan Mui, People's Artist Trung Hieu...

In response to Dan Viet 's questions about how People's Artist Trung Hieu will judge the 2024 National Open Piano Competition if he is not a lecturer or a piano performer, the male artist said that he is an artist and stage director, so he is in regular contact with music. With a musical work, it is not necessary to absorb or score from a professional perspective. If scoring is based on expertise, there are many lecturers and artists specializing in piano in the judging panel. He will score the entries based on emotion.

"I am very moved by the emotional works of art that touch the heart. This time, the contestants of the 2024 National Open Piano Competition are young people aged 5-18. Regarding the competition, this male artist also shared that this is a very good competition for developing musical talents. In the past, Vietnam had many famous musical talents in the country and the world, typically violinist Dang Thai Son. Unfortunately, now we also have many young talents but they have not been properly cared for and do not have many opportunities to shine. Therefore, he hopes that this is a competition to foster talents and that there will be more competitions like this in the future.

"Since 2014, Hanoi Drama Theater has implemented a huge project, which is to bring theater into schools. All literary works taught in schools will be dramatized so that children can perceive them vividly, get closer to the work and stimulate their imagination.

Our project has been highly appreciated by Ministries, Departments, and Branches. Thanks to this project, I see that today's young generation has many outstanding talents. However, for some reason, they have not been able to fully develop their talents."

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, the "Talent Search Round" of the contest will be held online (from January 2, 2024 to January 16, 2024). The "Shining Round" (Semi-final) will be held at the Vietnam National Academy of Music (March 16 and 17, 2024). The Final Round and Award Gala will be held at the Concert Hall - Vietnam National Academy of Music (March 24, 2024). The winning contestants in each group will receive cups, medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze), certificates, cash, gifts in kind... In addition, there will be additional prizes such as those voted by the audience.
