On September 26, on Korean social networking sites, images of the home team's competition bracket were spread that had been changed.
South Korea were initially in the top bracket and if they beat Kyrgyzstan, their quarter-final opponent would be the winner of China's clash with Qatar.
But the surprise happened when, after just one night, the Korean Olympic team was sent down to the second bracket and if they won, they would face one of two teams, Hong Kong (China) or Palestine.
As for the Chinese Olympic team, instead of possibly having to meet South Korea in the quarterfinals, they will face more comfortable opponents like Iran or Thailand.
This change brings many advantages to the host team of ASIAD 19.
But in the latest announcement, an official of the Korea Football Association (KFA) spoke up to reassure public opinion.
“We have not been informed by the organizers that there has been any change to the bracket. When we contacted the organizers to ask about this, they confirmed that no changes have been made.
I checked the information on the homepage and everything is still the same as the original plan,” the official said.
In two times hosting the ASIAD, China faced South Korea in men's football and lost both times.
At the 1990 ASIAD, the Chinese national team lost 0-2 to South Korea in the group stage.
At the 2010 ASIAD, Olympic China continued to lose to the team from the Land of Gold in the round of 16.
