On June 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that it had requested Korea Star Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (address 781/C9 Le Hong Phong, Ward 12, District 10) to immediately suspend all surgical and procedural activities.
The Department of Health has sent a working group including surgical safety experts to the hospital to inspect, evaluate and identify risks affecting patient safety at the hospital to report to the Ministry of Health .
According to the Department of Health, on June 17 and 18, the unit was informed of two serious medical incidents after cosmetic surgery at Korea Star Hospital.
One is female patient NTHY (30 years old) who had breast implant surgery with endotracheal anesthesia on June 15.
After surgery and extubation, the patient became seriously ill and was given emergency resuscitation. After more than 8 hours of treatment, the patient's condition continued to worsen (arrhythmia, cardiac arrest), so the hospital consulted with Military Hospital 175 .
The patient was then put on ECMO resuscitation and transferred to Military Hospital 175 at 11:10 p.m. the same day. The patient's condition is still very serious.
The second is female patient CT (31 years old) who had breast augmentation surgery and arm liposuction under endotracheal anesthesia at Korea Star Hospital - Sao Han on June 14.
One day after surgery, the patient developed respiratory failure and fever. The patient was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital for further resuscitation with a diagnosis of respiratory failure, pneumonia, post-operative liposuction of both arms, and bilateral breast augmentation.
After the above incidents, the Department of Health said it had requested Korea Star Hospital to completely suspend all surgical and procedural activities at the hospital from the afternoon of June 19.
Cosmetic hospitals must ensure patient safety.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health requires cosmetic hospitals to ensure conditions for emergency care for patients, review professional procedures, and apply the highest criteria to ensure patient safety such as procedures for preventing anaphylactic shock, procedures for preventing embolism, and procedures for anesthesia and resuscitation.
At the same time, strictly implement the consultation regulations and timely transfer to other hospitals when treatment capacity is exceeded, especially the development of internal and inter-hospital red alert procedure drills to increase the ability to save patients in critical condition.
When medical incidents occur, medical facilities must immediately report to the Department of Health (by phone) within 60 minutes of detecting the incident and send a written report afterward.
