Ms. Le Bui Thi Mai Uyen, Director of MILO and Milk (Nestlé Vietnam) and also a mother with school-age children, said that in the journey of growing up with their children, parents have many concerns. One of the wishes of parents is to see their children have enough endurance to develop comprehensively today and succeed in the future. A recent survey by Kantar showed that 92% of Vietnamese mothers want their children to be more resilient so that they can have enough energy to complete all activities during the day.

Persistence leads to success

Could you share more about the concept of resilience and the role of this factor in the development journey of children?

Ms. Le Bui Thi Mai Uyen: Endurance, in its simplest definition, is the ability to perform physical and mental activities effectively and with concentration for a long period of time without fatigue. To measure endurance, we can assess both the intensity of activity and the duration of activity.

With perseverance, children become more agile, can participate in activities more enthusiastically, thereby encouraging better metabolism, leading to the development of the musculoskeletal system and the ability to absorb nutrients is also much better. Moreover, perseverance also helps children sleep better, confident in all activities. Children's ability to perceive and receive information will also be much better and faster. The most important point is that children can manage emotions very well. Not only is it the foundation for children's development today, perseverance is also a factor that helps children succeed in the future.

As a mother and also regularly in contact with children and parents, how do you recognize that a child lacks perseverance?

The obvious manifestation and impact when children lack perseverance is that their ability to participate in physical activities is no longer agile, affecting metabolism, slowing down the development of bones, height, and weight. Children will easily get tired, their sleep, concentration, and resistance will also be affected.

If mothers do not pay close attention, the signs of children lacking endurance are always hidden in daily activities. Parents often think that their children are tired today, or because of the weather, or because they do not like that activity, without realizing that these are signs of children lacking endurance.

After observing the lack of endurance in children, parents should not worry too much because there is a solution to improve children's endurance through nutrition and daily exercise. According to a clinical study by the National Institute of Nutrition published in January 2024, drinking Nestlé MILO barley milk every day combined with physical exercise has been proven to help children become more durable after 3 months.

Journey to improve resilience for Vietnamese children

Recently, the streets have been covered in green with a message of sustainability. What does this activity of Nestlé Vietnam and MILO mean?

Nestlé is a leading food group in the world and we have scientific research to find out how resilience plays a role in the comprehensive development of children. In addition, through a series of studies and conversations with consumers, we know that mothers are also aware that resilience is important for children. However, how to help mothers visualize resilience more clearly and help their children become more resilient is not easy. Meanwhile, building a more dynamic and resilient generation of young Vietnamese is a long-term commitment of the Nestlé MILO brand. Therefore, in this year's campaigns and the following years, we focus on raising mothers' awareness of resilience in the journey of comprehensive development of children.

How has this goal been realized over the past 30 years?

Nearly three decades ago, we outlined specific action plans for the goal of building a more dynamic and resilient generation of Vietnamese in the future.

We have a strategic partnership with the National Institute of Nutrition to conduct clinical trials to find solutions to increase endurance, including drinking MILO every day combined with physical exercise to help children be more durable. To meet the nutritional needs of children in daily activities as well as in the long journey, we research to bring out appropriate nutritional improvements in MILO products.

The MILO brand appears in many school sports activities such as Phu Dong Sports Festival, tournaments of football, basketball, swimming, Vovinam... within the framework of the "Dynamic Vietnam" program implemented in many localities across the country. Sports is a great "teacher". Along with training, children develop perseverance, discipline, patience, resilience and build a brighter future.

How is the message of resilience spread?

In addition to the above activities, we also launched many specialized communication campaigns to raise awareness among mothers about the importance of endurance as well as how to help children become more resilient through proper nutrition and physical activity. For example, the series of events "Giant 24-hour Endurance Charging Station" just held last April attracted many mothers and children to attend.

We also promote user engagement activities on digital platforms, such as the More Endurance Challenge on Tiktok and Zalo.

Madam, as Director of MILO and Milk products of Nestlé Vietnam, and also a mother, can you share what we can do together to improve children's resilience in the future?

As a mother of young children, I believe that improving the resilience of the young generation is not the story of one person or one family alone. I hope that mothers will join together to supplement nutritional products to help their children improve their resilience. Furthermore, we must create conditions for our children to practice sports. Let's accompany our children, observe, and encourage them so that they have more motivation, try a little harder each day, from which their resilience is improved every day.

As a nutrition brand associated with many generations of Vietnamese children, Nestlé MILO always accompanies and joins hands with the Government and agencies, departments, and partners to improve and provide nutritious products for children, creating conditions for children to exercise and practice sports through the "Dynamic Vietnam" program, while communicating and providing knowledge to raise parents' awareness of the importance of perseverance for the comprehensive development of children.

Our small actions today will determine the future of our children. I hope that all parents, schools and agencies will join hands to encourage children to exercise while providing nutritional products to improve their physical and mental endurance. Twenty or thirty years from now, we can look back and be proud to have contributed to building a generation of Vietnamese people who are more active, healthy and resilient.
