The Khmer folk performing art of Pentatonic music was included in the List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Project for preservation and promotion of values was approved in Decision No. 2275/QD-UBND of the People's Committee of Soc Trang province.
Therefore, to preserve and promote the value of this art form, the Khmer Art Troupe of Soc Trang province has organized classes to teach the next generations. This is one of the most important, effective and urgent solutions.
The class has 80 students who are artisans and musicians from clubs and cultural venues at pagodas in the province. The class started on August 16, after nearly 2 months, under the dedicated guidance of lecturers and artisans, along with the students' diligence and hard work, it has brought about valuable and commendable results.
Students have grasped basic knowledge of Khmer pentatonic musical instruments such as: Roneat Ek, Roneak Dek, Roneak Thung, Kuong vong Thum, Kuong vong Tuock, Skuo Sompho, Srolay, Skuo Thum, Shhin...
At the ceremony, students practiced performing all kinds of pentatonic instruments to report the end of the class. At the same time, the Organizing Committee awarded certificates to 80 students who completed the pentatonic music teaching class in 2024./.
