On the morning of August 7, Dr. La Tien Cuong, Department of Pediatrics, Lang Son General Hospital, said that the hospital had just received a case of a 13-year-old child with many complications after taking weight loss drugs.

Specifically, the baby's liver enzyme test results were 10 times higher than normal. The patient was quickly given medication to control blood pressure and closely monitored.

According to doctors, the weight loss drug that children have been using recently contains Garcinia Cambogia (GC). This is a tropical fruit, mangosteen family, shaped like a small pumpkin, usually green, commonly used in weight loss supplements. The fruit peel also contains Hydro citric acid (HCA) which helps prevent the production of fat, while increasing serotonin in the brain to help the body feel less hungry.

However, in practice, research has not yielded positive results. According to many studies by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), when using Garcinia Cambogia, you may experience dizziness, dry mouth, headache, abdominal discomfort or diarrhea, and some people experience serious liver problems after using it.

Doctors say that long-term use of weight loss support drugs leads to symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness, and euphoria: increased heart rate, increased blood pressure... More severe cases can lead to liver cell damage, acute liver failure, and directly affect life.

Although people have been repeatedly warned not to use drugs and weight loss supplements of unknown origin or abuse them, medical facilities continue to receive many cases of accidents caused by these products.

Specifically, recently, a 38-year-old woman in Quang Ninh had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment due to fatigue, drowsiness, rapid pulse, delirium, and chest pain after a week of taking weight loss pills purchased online. Doctors determined that she was in a very critical state of poisoning, with severe arrhythmia, signs of kidney failure, and severe hypokalemia.

From the above cases, doctors recommend that consumers be cautious in choosing and using weight loss products. In addition, they should combine a suitable diet, increase exercise, and not believe in rapid weight loss products advertised online.
