In a recent report on Ukraine's counteroffensive, the BBC quoted soldiers from the 24th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian army as saying they must prepare for a never-ending war.
The BBC also reported that the summer counteroffensive in Ukraine is coming to an end without achieving the breakthroughs many had hoped for.

Despite the massive amount of military equipment supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries, the West has been unable to break through Russia's defenses in southeastern Ukraine. Meanwhile, Moscow has largely repelled Kyiv's counterattacks on all fronts.
The BBC noted that Russia has a numerical advantage in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These drones are attacking Ukrainian defensive positions and mechanized units day and night. In other words, air superiority is giving Moscow's forces a significant edge on the battlefield.
"Russia has more drones, which makes camouflage and undetection crucial. We were about to carry out a mission when the radio crackled, telling us to stop because Russian drones were detected operating in the area," a Ukrainian soldier told the BBC.
If Ukrainian forces hold out in fortified positions, Russian UAVs will destroy their vehicles and personnel.
According to Ukrainian soldiers, even if they manage to seize the fortifications from Russia, they will soon be bombarded by enemy fire using various weapons. Faced with such a situation, everyone must think about how to defend themselves.
According to the BBC , Ukrainian soldiers interviewed were unsure about when they would be discharged, despite having fought for quite some time.
Earlier, on September 27, RT quoted Russian Defense Minister General Sergei Shoigu as saying at a meeting with officials from the Russian Ministry of Defense that the Ukrainian army continued to suffer heavy losses in the nearly four months since the counteroffensive began. Shoigu asserted that Kyiv had lost more than 17,000 servicemen in September alone.
Minister Shoigu added that Ukraine also lost more than 2,700 pieces of military equipment in the same month of September. The list of equipment destroyed by Russian forces includes 7 US-made Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, 2 German-made Leopard tanks and 1 British-made Challenger tank, as well as 77 US-made M777 howitzers and 51 self-propelled artillery pieces from Germany, France, Poland and the US.
