On March 8, Cai Lay District Police, Tien Giang Province, announced that they had just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain 6 people to investigate the act of "Extortion of property".
Accordingly, the 6 people include: Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung (born in 1993), Nguyen Quoc Dat (born in 1998, both residing in Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province), Vo Cao Tuan (born in 1980, residing in Chau Thanh district), Kien Thuong (born in 1996, residing in Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang), Nguyen Tan Vu (born in 1982) and Nguyen Hoang Phuc (born in 1986, both residing in Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang).
At the investigation agency, Nhung confessed that she was the leader. In January 2024, through a friend, Nhung lent Luu Van Hoang Anh (in Long Tien commune, Cai Lay district, Tien Giang) 50 million VND.
On the appointed day, Hoang Anh did not pay; after many unsuccessful calls, on the afternoon of January 24, Nhung called Thuong and asked her to go to Hoang Anh's house to collect the debt. Thuong invited Tuan, Phuc, Vu, and Nhung invited Dat to go with her.
When they arrived at the house and could not find Hoang Anh, Nhung's group threatened Hoang Anh's wife and children, demanding payment. Thuong and Tuan also took homemade knives to threaten Hoang Anh's family, forcing them to pay the debt.
Before leaving, Nhung's group threatened to return if they were not paid. Then, Nhung transferred 1.2 million VND to Thuong for the work. Thuong paid Phuc, Vu, and Tuan 300,000 VND each.
Initially, at the police station, the above people admitted their actions.
