The first group to come to Ha Giang was an American billionaire couple with the most stringent requirements for their journey.
For the ultra-wealthy, confidentiality is one of the most important terms when looking for a travel destination, which is why these behind-the-scenes secrets are only now being revealed.
Requires "taste", not afraid to spend money
The resort's internal vegetable garden is a source of food for the meals of wealthy guests.
In December 2022, a helicopter carrying members of a group of American billionaires landed in Ha Giang city. It was said to be the first group of super-rich tourists to set foot on this rocky plateau.
The group had six members: two main guests, an American billionaire and his girlfriend, accompanied by a nurse, a fitness trainer, and a representative of the travel service provider in Asia for the couple.
In the North, Ha Giang and Sa Pa (Lao Cai) are the two destinations chosen by this guest, and are also stops on their Southeast Asia tour.
Ha Giang's only luxury resort hidden on the top of Bac Buu mountain (Bac Me district) was chosen by an American billionaire couple.
Although staying in Ha Giang for only 4 days and 3 nights, the plan for the trip was prepared 4 months in advance, with the first request being to book the entire resort.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Su - operations director of P'apiu resort, privacy is the most important requirement of super-rich guests when choosing a destination.
"This American billionaire couple is the most demanding and complicated group of super-rich guests that have come to us. From the very first day of working, they set a condition that they would only come to Ha Giang if they could book the entire resort. If there was just one villa with guests, they would immediately cancel their plans," Ms. Su shared.
Over a period of 4 months, many discussions took place between the two sides to agree on the schedule, experiential activities, and menu.
Before the trip, the representative of the travel service provider in Asia (agency), who was also in charge of booking the tour, visited the resort twice to survey.
The brocade road painted by local people lies in the middle of a cool green space.
"They have strict requirements on standards and preferences, but at the same time are willing to discuss so that the accommodation can meet them. The requirements are difficult, but they are always open to coordination. Their way of working is very professional. Whether I can meet them or not, I have to discuss the details again," said Ms. Su.
About a month before the vacation, a complete list of service personnel from the kitchen, main service provider to the gardener, including personal information and photos, is sent to the guest for approval. This billionaire guest does not accept any strange faces appearing at their resort.
Next, the couple and their companions' busy schedule was planned in detail by the fitness trainer, including jungle walks, cycling, and experiencing local culture...
Each member of the group had their own favorite bicycle. To meet this requirement, their representative rented a car to transport the bicycles from Hanoi to Ha Giang.
10 days before the vacation, the entire menu for the stay from main meals to snacks is listed. Their requests are detailed enough to include the exact time of serving meals, the heat of the dishes according to the group's preferences.

Love learning ethnic languages and indigenous cultures
According to the resort representative, the American billionaire group was interested in learning about local culture.
The service staff are all Dao, Mong and Tay ethnic people who do not know English. Not only do customers not require the staff to know English, they are also enthusiastic about learning how the ethnic people speak.

"They experienced all the cultural activities we offered such as bamboo dancing with the butler, throwing cones... In particular, the fire dancing performance of the Pa Then people in Quang Binh district made a great impression on them.
We initially planned to hire dancers to perform, but the billionaire immediately expressed that they wanted to experience the local culture in its entirety. They would rather see the locals perform," Ms. Su shared.
So a gala night was staged and rehearsed by the Pa Then ethnic women in the same village in Quang Binh district. The resort even had to record a video of the rehearsal process and update the guests.
From the beginning of the planning to the end of the trip, all activities in the itinerary of this group of American billionaires must be kept absolutely confidential. Immediately after the group leaves, the menu for these guests must also be canceled.
After this group of guests, in 2023, the resort continued to welcome two groups of super-rich guests: a Thai billionaire couple (September 2023) and a group of American young masters (December 2023).

Ms. Tinh also pointed out the shortcomings of provincial tourism in welcoming high-end tourists, namely the lack of tourism products, accommodation facilities, and restaurants for this type of tourist. However, the province has a master plan and development plans aimed at attracting high-end tourists by 2030.
In the first two months of the year, Ha Giang welcomed 200,000 tourists, including 10,000 international visitors. Ha Giang aims to welcome 3.2 million visitors in 2024.
