Traffic control contractor to construct road subsidence compensation at the bridgehead on the Long Xuyen city bypass (An Giang).

Mr. Nguyen The Vuong, Deputy Director of the consulting and supervising unit of the Long Xuyen city bypass, said that the contractor will construct one lane, the other lane will be for vehicles. Once the lane is divided and completed, the contractor will start to work on the other lane. There will always be someone on duty to regulate the construction site.

Although traffic regulation for the contractor to compensate for the subsidence of the road at the bridgehead has somewhat affected travel, Mr. Huynh Cong Tuan (45 years old, living in Can Tho city) still feels satisfied.

"I often transport goods on this bypass. The new road was smooth at first, but recently it has become bumpy at some ends of the bridge due to subsidence. Now the contractor is repairing it, so in a few days it will be more convenient to travel," said Mr. Tuan.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thom (38 years old, living in An Giang province) said: "Since the Long Xuyen city bypass was inaugurated and put into use, vehicles have chosen this road to travel because the new road runs smoother."

Completed on 9/20

Mr. Nguyen The Vuong added that the entire bypass route has 18 bridges, with 36 road sections leading to the bridges.

The construction of compensation for subsidence of the road at the head of the Long Xuyen city bypass is being urgently carried out by the contractor.

Through survey, it was determined that 25/36 bridgehead road locations need to be compensated for subsidence.

"The reason for the subsidence at the bridgeheads is because the road was built on weak ground. The bridges did not subside due to their specialized structures. On the entire road, all the subsidence was even, with the thickest spot being 5cm," said Mr. Vuong.

Mr. Vuong added that the subsidence of the roadbed was already expected when the project began. Therefore, the road is still under a one-year warranty period, and the relevant units will compensate for the subsidence until it is safe for vehicles to use.

According to Mr. Vuong, to ensure the quality of the subsidence of the bridgehead roads, before laying the asphalt concrete, the contractor carefully treated the roadbed so that the adhesion would be tighter after the construction was completed.

According to the construction unit, the compensation for the bridgehead roads will be completed by the contractor on September 20.

The investment project to build the connecting route of National Highway 91 and the bypass of Long Xuyen city through An Giang and Can Tho is 15.3km long and the upgraded and renovated section of National Highway 80 is about 2km long. Of which, 800m is in Can Tho city and 16.5km is in An Giang.
The project has a scale of building a level 3 plain road, two lanes for motor vehicles, a road surface width of 11m and a design speed of 80km/h. There are 18 bridges on the route, along with a drainage and lighting system. The starting point of the project connects to the approach road to Vam Cong bridge, the end point connects to National Highway 91 in Binh Duc ward and Long Xuyen city.
The project has a total investment of VND 2,107 billion, using loans from the Asian Development Bank, inaugurated and put into use on June 16, 2024.
