Accidentally found treasure but made experts and archaeologists extremely surprised. The story below is proof.
In September 1980, during construction at the No. 1 Kongji construction site in Shucheng District, Lu'an City, Anhui Province (China), workers accidentally dug a strange black hole.
Immediately after receiving the news, archaeologists quickly arrived at the scene. When they saw the soil around the hole, they believed that there must be something strange underneath the hole. After archaeological exploration, experts discovered a large ancient tomb underground.
Archaeologists speculated that it could be an ancient tomb from the Spring and Autumn Period, the Warring States Period, or the Han Dynasty. After excavating, they found many rare cultural relics from the Spring and Autumn Period, about 2,500 years ago. In the ancient tomb, archaeologists saw holes and realized that this place had been attacked by tomb robbers in ancient times. However, many cultural relics were still relatively well preserved.
Unique treasure from 2,500 years ago
The bronze drum base, about 2,500 years old, is extremely delicately and uniquely crafted.
Among the antiques and cultural relics found, experts noticed a special object. It was a bronze drum base with "dragon and tiger" details.
The archaeologists were very excited when they saw this treasure. The base of this drum had a strange shape, and was decorated with a tiger's head and a coiled dragon on top. In particular, the tiger's head had erect ears, wide open eyes, an open mouth, and the dragon coiled around it and had a strange horn.
In ancient documents, it is recorded that the dragon is the leader of the aquatic race, and the tiger is the lord of the jungle. Therefore, an artifact that combines a dragon and a tiger shows supreme authority.
There are about 98 characters engraved on the front of this drum base and 52 characters on the back. According to these characters, the drum base is a part of the ancient drum and is often used in wars, ceremonies, and entertainment activities... Ancient drums usually consist of 3 parts: the drum base, the column, and the drum body. The top of the drum is decorated with flags or feathers.
According to experts, the diameter of this drum base is 80 cm, height 29 cm, hollow bottom and weight about 100 kg.
Regarding the identity of the owner of the treasure, researchers said it is still unclear. However, based on the bronze burial objects excavated at the same time such as bronze bells, carriages, etc., it can be determined that the owner of the tomb, and at the same time the owner of this series of rare antiques, was a vassal king of the Zhou Dynasty during the Spring and Autumn period.
This is truly a rare treasure of about 2,500 years old and it is also made by melted wax casting, a method that has been lost. This method requires very elaborate and meticulous crafting.

Archaeologists have found very few cultural relics crafted and cast using the wax-melting method. Before the bronze drum base above, experts excavated a number of artifacts cast using this lost method in the tomb of Tang Hau At in 1978.
The drum base treasure was found in the tomb of Tang Hou Yi.
The tomb of Zeng Hou Yi and the tomb excavated in 1980 both have drum bases with many similarities in using the same manufacturing method, carved patterns related to dragons. The only difference is that the drum base has "dragons and tigers" that will make a sound like the roar of dragons and tigers when they collide. This is very rare and extremely mysterious.
According to experts, even with today's modern technology, it is very difficult to create a version or a fake of the 2,500-year-old drum base. This shows the masterful skills of the craftsmen thousands of years ago.
Currently, this unique drum base is preserved and displayed at the Anhui Provincial Museum (China).
