Tianjin Daily newspaper said that Buriram United players came to China with the mentality of wanting to avenge the Thai team after their defeat to the Chinese team in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.

The newspaper wrote: "Because the Thai team lost to the Chinese team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Buriram United players marched to Zhejiang's field with the mentality of wanting revenge. They could not take revenge on the field but were forced to use their fists.

In recent years, Chinese football has declined significantly and is close to the level of Thailand. Therefore, the Thai team always compares with the Chinese team. This has a great impact on the psychology of Thai players and fans.

Half a month ago, the Thai national team suffered a 1-2 defeat at home to the Chinese national team in the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. That defeat caused chaos within Thailand. Coach Mano Polking was fired. Therefore, the mentality of the Thai players is to avenge the defeat of the national team.

Buriram United players did not hesitate to play violently throughout the match. Not only that, they also provoked, leading to a terrible brawl. The consequences that Buriram United and Zhejiang have to suffer will affect the future of both teams. They will have to face very heavy penalties."

Meanwhile, the Chinese Football Association issued a statement: "The conflict at Huzhou Stadium seriously violated the spirit of sportsmanship, affected security and order in the stadium and created a bad image.

The Chinese Football Association strongly opposes all forms of violence on the pitch. We will assist the Asian Football Confederation in investigating this incident.

The Chinese Football Association will strengthen the management of clubs and participating units at all levels, seriously learn from the recent incident. Each team must strictly implement the regulations when participating in domestic and international competitions and strengthen the education of players, coaches and staff.

At the same time, they must respect the decisions of the referee and the opponent, consciously maintain order on the field and demonstrate the sportsmanship of Chinese football."

Buriram United's number 10 player, Ramil Sheydayev, was accused of viciously attacking. Afterwards, the Russian striker was "beaten up" (Photo: Sohu).

Number 10 Ramil Sheydayev's actions were too aggressive. He choked two Zhejiang players, including a very dangerous chokehold from behind. It was very similar to a jujitsu move.

We must stand with Zhejiang FC. The Thai player's actions were very dangerous. If his teammates had not come to his rescue, what would have happened to the Zhejiang player? The Buriram United player must be severely punished."

The Asian Football Confederation has not commented on the brawl between Buriram United and Zhejiang clubs. They are investigating before making a final conclusion.
