FourFourTwo writer Mark White writes: "The Vietnam women's team has called up 30 players to prepare to compete in the first World Cup in the history of this country's football.
In theory, the Vietnamese women's team is not highly rated in their first appearance in this arena. However, in reality, few teams have had such an impressive preparation process as they have.
This team just won the gold medal in women's football at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32).
Previously, they also won the right to participate in the second qualifying round of the 2024 Olympics in Asia, after two consecutive victories in the first qualifying round.
The Vietnam women's team is currently ranked 33rd in the world women's football rankings of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
In the opening match of Group E of the 2023 Women's World Cup, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will face the reigning world champions, the US team (July 22).
Next, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will meet the Portuguese team (July 27). This match is considered "easier" for the Vietnamese team before entering the confrontation with the opponent in the third match of the group stage, the Netherlands team, the world runner-up (August 1).
According to FourFourTwo ’s prediction, the confrontation with the US and the Netherlands will witness a rain of goals pouring down on the Vietnamese team’s goal. However, experts are still expecting a miracle, which is that the Vietnamese strikers will score against these two senior opponents who are at the top of the world.
Meanwhile, the match with Portugal is considered a good opportunity for coach Mai Duc Chung's students to achieve positive results, especially when captain Huynh Nhu has spent a long time playing football in Portugal for Lank Vilaverdense Club and has certain knowledge about some Portuguese players.
FourFourTwo hopes that the harmonious combination of youth and experience of the players will be a positive factor to help the Southeast Asian team have a performance beyond expectations at the 2023 World Cup.
According to the plan, coach Mai Duc Chung will finalize the official list of players participating in the 2023 World Cup on July 9. All group stage matches of the Vietnamese team will take place in New Zealand.
